Fork Brace
#1

This article was in my local newspaper section "My Ride" which features local automobiles and motorcycles (mostly Harley Davidson). Fork Braces have be an item of discussion in the past on this forum, and I concluded that I do not need one installed in my CB1100.
Anyways, I thought this article might be interesting to some of you:

(usually its wheel or neck bearings or rear suspension causing that issue, or tires). Fork braces really shine under hard braking and quick turning and changing of direction. I do have one on the CB. On the concours i have one as well and it did have a wobble, which was indeed the front wheel bearings.

Good you mentioned "rear suspension" as a possibility for steering instability, m in sc. It's so often ignored.
I recall that German (and British) police BMWs, back in the 80s I think, had issues of this nature, even the possibility of a fatality as a result. It was the heavy radio equipment in the panniers, I believe, and I'm not sure of the final outcome, although it was eventually sorted. But it illustrates clearly that the REAR of the offending 'bike should also be considered when trying to sort a phantom cause of instability

A fork brace is supposed to keep the forks from flexing, which usually only happens on hard turns where there are uneven stresses on each fork leg. My CB750, benefited greatly from the addition of a fork brace. Stability on high speed sweepers and slower hard corners was immediately noticeable. The CB1100, on the other hand, has always felt very stable in similar conditions. In my opinion, it doesn't need a fork brace. I added one because I liked the look.

My Nighthawk 750 also benefitted greatly by adding a Superbrace, but the CB1100 doesn't feel like it needs one to me.

(+1) for '84 750 Nighthawk - and it looked good on that bike too.

The CB1100 seems to be just fine as designed.

My CB1100 has been greatly enhanced by the fork brace I won in a competition. Thanks

I put one on my 14 and didn't notice anything really. It does look good so i was ok leaving it but if you're expecting to feel an instant difference after bolting it up you'll be disappointed.
