Figured it out! I had ben focusing on the pin connectors behind the cover also. I download the manual to find the location of the sensor close to the exhaust- aha! There is a small connector that popped off and pulled back in the bundle when I was monkeying with the wires.
Next question: why is it when you figure out a simple glitch like this you feel like a superhero???
THANK YOU ALL!!!

Bike runs fine- but the green N light does not go on when the bike is shifted into neutral. Also, when the bike is in neutral and you put down the kickstand, the engine shuts off.
So- there's some neutral indicating circuit that is open. Anyone know where these wires/switches are in the harness? The wiring is tucked away very cleverly so any help would be greatly appreciated.
The bike shutting off with the kickstand down is a safety figure so you do not do a kickstand side-wheelie. Old bikes did not have this, I saw a few crashes years ago when a rider would take off with it down.

Lovely, we appreciate the update and fix, having a diagram can be a big step forward and welcome to the world of "fixed it highs" feelgood after learning a new trick.
And things like this happen regularly, i failed to start my new cb1000r, lights but no start, it went a lot better when i got it out of gear and the green neutral light came on....

Safeties work, i would have been very sad if the bike took off in gear if it wasn't for the little neutral switch, unusually i had stopped the engine with the killswitch in gear and forgotten about it.
There is No substitute for experience and much cheaper to learn from someone else's mistakes as long as you are not standing in front of it.

Better to feel like a Hero than feeling like an idiot for messing something up in the first place.....
