2014 CB 1100 Front Brakes troubleshooting

I have tried EBC brake pads on other bikes I have owned and discovered they just didn't work as well as the stock, Honda pads.

2nd that for EBC Organic pads. Used them on my Triumph Daytona and they were extremely poor, very low friction generated.

If they are actually warped nothing will fix them except by replacement.

If they just have pad residue on them then Scotch-Brite and acetone should clean it off.

Rotors on partsfish.com are $218. Maybe a little cheaper at other parts houses.

Ok, I read your post again and see you replaced the rotors. Assuming they are not warped, try cleaning off the rotor real good.

Just an FYI for future readers. Partsfish.com does not carry the disc rotors for our bikes. Not sure when that changed. I had to order them from Cheapcycle parts and they aren’t stocked here in the U.S. So the shipment of my discs is coming from Japan. My rotors are fried due to the bike being ridden for several thousand miles in blazing 100+ degree weather in Arizona. I bought the bike last May from tgere and noticed the issue when I rode back to California. The vibration only kicks in when I start braking at speeds of 65 mph. I have worked on cars and motorcycle brake systems for years and they are definitely warped. Of course I tried all the simple fixes
Ike flushing brake fluid, changing pads, cleaning the disc with steel wool. Lubing the sliders that the pads sit on etc. So, I had to shell out $550. Big bummer but the bike only cost me $6,500 with 9k miles and I love everything about this bike except the suspension. I will wait to do upgrades when the rears wear out.

You might consider also replacing the bolts that mount the rotors. One member reused his and a one, or a couple, broke before he reached the specified torque.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, just from something that happened to me;

My cb900 hornet developed a pulsed braking effect which got slowly worse, after changing pads that effect was not noticeable anymore, it was the uneven buildup of pad material on the disks whatever that was.

A good way to check disk warping is to find the point where the disk is making contact and marking that on the disk with a felt pen marker, where the rotor is warped the marking will get worn off so the spot and the responsible pad is now clearly visible and proof the disk is indeed the problem.
