It's BMW Airhead specific, but level of detail in each short video seems good general education for novices like me. I've always understood the general philosophy of how a transmission works for example, but the details of how it's implemented has always been a mystery. There are about a half dozen 10 minute videos on each topic that go into detail... R100RS transmission for example...

Question: so engine oil...in the second video, oil sits at the bottom to a specified level and the gears dip into it?
Amazing design complexity for both what's produced, but also for designing the machines that make these gears, shafts, etc.

and here you see why it does / you hear "klonc" if you put the first gear in from the neutral with the clutch pulled .....left is the runnig engine (drilling machine) .....
The clutch is open, but the oil in it transfers enough power to turn the gearbox until just you put the first gear in...but BMW has so far i know a dry clutch and not in an "oil bath"
