The live chatbox is a nice addition. Forumotion also had a mobile app version available previously, which was okay, but I think they have ended that one if I am not mistaken.

To preserve the Forum history it makes most sense to clone the database to one of many available and modern blog server sites that other vehicle forums have been using for many years.

The real value is the database. A new interface is not a problem.

+1 to that. some way to archive all the existing threads exterrnally is needed, but methods i've been trying are just not bringing any fruit. i regret i just don't have any experience with that kind of thing. straight up downloading it isn't working so far though.

At the risk of sounding old or dumb or both: is it impossible to just have Guth turn over the passwords and migrate the entire site to the server of the new owner’s choice?

Very possible. In fact that's the best case scenario. First, However, You have to get Guth to answer that request. Nobody has yet been successful in that endeavor at this time.
