In retrospect, I don't really consider it a problem. The stock bolts are long enough and appear to be of better quality/grade than the cheaper, plated versions SW-Motech supplied.

All I have to worry about now is how long it will take for the plated U-Bolts to start corroding.
For the money, stainless steel hardware would have been nice.

With your winters and the attending salt I would encourage you to install stainless steel bits now instead of waiting for the stock bits to rust.

I envy the fact that you can drive year-round!

My bikes never see Winter and rarely ever see rain.

They go into protective hibernation, usually in late November and don't come out until April (or until the winter salt and sand have been washed off the roads). Just before their induced sleep, I change the oil, treat them with rust inhibitor where required and hook up the optimate tender. I'm glad to get back to a retro-air cooled engine so that I no longer have to worry about coolant. The last Canadian Winter just about tested the limits of the anti-freeze in my Vulcan 1700 since my garage is not heated!

I used to live in Duluth, and at times I'd rather be back there. Year around is a bit of a stretch. When the lows are 100 (even at midnight) it's like riding in a hair drier. Ride too long, you'll look like a mummy.

And batteries. Heat eats batteries like candy.

These are the facts of life when you live in Canada. My bikes are stored in my basement where it's warm and dry from around 1 November to about the end of April - depending on weather conditions. My bikes never see a speck of road salt and I only ride in the rain if I get caught out on the road.
This past winter was especially bad and long and spring weather has been terrible so not much riding so far this year. I've had the CB for over a month now and it only has 320 km's on it.
