I mentioned to a fellow rider ( he s a plumber) that I wanted to add gaiters and he discouraged it, saying it would cause rust on the fork legs.
I had never heard this before. Can anyone comment on if this happens.
I live in the Deep South ( hot and humid 8 months out of 12) but don't ride in the rain and bike is kept in an enclosed garage
Thanks

Clean the forks and apply a rust preventive coating like CF50 before placing the gaiters. It's hot and humid in my area and I've had some minor issues with rust on the upper fork legs and lower triple clamp. I think the gaiters will also protect the fork seals.

Had gaiters on two Transalps, three W650s, and many other bikes over the years and never had a problem with rust on the fork tubes. Had some rust problems on bikes without them. IMHO they do a good job of protecting the tubes. My Chinese Dong Fang DF250RTB-A even came with the gaiters.

I was thinking about going to Barber but need to get back to FL to clean up after Irma. As soon as my granddaughter leaves and I pickup the CB1100 we are headed south.
She is a future monkey for my Ural.
