I did a 5000 mile trip with my brother in-law a few years ago , he had new metzlers and I had Michelins by the end of the trip the metzlers were showing cords , my Michelins still looked new. My bike was a Road King and his was a C 50 Suzuki . Maybe a bad set of tires , both bikes rode the exact roads at the same pace.

The Metzeler brand was purchased by Pirelli way back in '86, maybe it was Pirelli's influence for a softer compound, that's a complete guess of course? The Michelin Anakee Adventures on my GS will easy last 8,000 miles on the rear, more like 10,000 on the front, very refreshing. That is the best I have ever had out of a tyre, my Tiger used to eat Metzeler Tourance Next and Bridgestone A40/41's, especially the front where the handling was adversely affected before the tread pattern was used up.
