Ive upgraded my groms suspension with a yss rear shock, bronze bushings in the swingarm, and recetech valves and springs in the front forks. larger front caliper , and a bunch of motor upgrades. tires are michelin power pures (total for set of tires mounted was like 110 bucks. lol). pretty much all that, aside from going to twin shocks, will work for the monkey. I can assure you, its (even when it was stock) lightyears ahead of ct and sl series vintage bikes in regards to handling. upgrading it just makes it better, and compared to most other bikes, cheap to upgrade. I can cruise mine (it has a big bore with 4v head) over 70 all day on the highway, and its stable past 80 mph, believe it or not. im also a bit over 200 lbs and 46 yrs old. Ive had mine at deals gap 3 times during the 2 stroke event week, and never been disappointed in it. they are, while goofy and relatively small, very capable, which becomes more evident the longer you have it. i will say, the stock tires when you really push it, suck. they def cut budget there. i mean.. look at bmw if you want to look at fiery deaths, they had that recall a few years ago about the rear suspension bolt shearing... friend of mine got his bought back from bmw because of it, thats some scary stuff. and it wasnt the first one BMW has had.

It sounds like your Grom is really a fun build. It makes me want to look into one seriously. My problem with them has always been the low top speed which greatly limits where they can go. Did you end up changing sprocket size to give yourself higher gearing, or are you just able to pull higher rpm with your power increases?

lol. you should see my friends turbo XS400, he has the real metal working skills. 20+ years in f1 and drag/roadracing professional builds.

But back on point, if anyone on here gets a change to ride a grom, do it. I've heard the monkey is better in every way, they arent around here since they were all pre-ordered and bought, but i'm pretty sure ones in my future as well.
