It's all subjective. Honestly, as far as design/styling is concerned I much prefer to see the exposed frame outlining the side cover.
Some people like to think that "it's only a side cover, what's the big deal"? Why can't Honda just come up with something that everybody loves? Well that's where it all starts my friends — with a simple side cover redesign. But the next thing you know, you've got the design team from Rubbermaid coming in on a cooperative design contract that's been greenlighted and on the fast track before anybody else knew what hit them. Soon enough, the Rubbermaid guys are completely taking over. The end result? Honda riders find it puzzling that they are being asked to park their motorcycles over in the remote lot, right next to the rows of Porta Potties.
I know everyone thinks that I just make this stuff up, but stop and think. How do you suppose that the Honda Pacific Coast* came to be? That's right, it all started with a simple side cover design review.
*All in fun folks. By most accounts the HPC is supposed to be a great bike and it became a cult classic for a reason. While the PP content of the image was a manipulation, the PC content was not. That's a pretty impressive gathering, one that most CB1100 gatherings would be proud to duplicate.
