Before I google it, I think it's a Canadian Version of a VW Thing

Woman I dated after my 1st divorce had a brother who was somekinda Thing nut(job) who had cornered the market on parts.. He had a bombardier something or other body in the corner of the garage..

I had to laugh when you wrote " after my first divorce" !
Having been married to the same woman for 43 years saved me a lot of money to spend on motor cycles !

Not quite but you are close enough that I owe you a drink should we ever meet in person.

The Iltis was first manufactured for the German army by Volkswagen (hence the Thing DNA) and the rights were later purchased by Bombardier and produced for the Canadian Army in 1985-86. We sold off what was left of them in 2004 when they were replaced with the G Wagon.

It would be awesome in Arizona, it really excels in the desert. On my first tour to Afghanistan I took my Iltis (before the IED war started) places I never thought a vehicle would go.

As an aside, I took the XB12XT on one of my favourite 70 mile loops on the weekend. The road is very scenic but extremely rough (in fact I can't even drive my Trans Am on it because the car will drag), I tried it in the spring with the CB1100 and the suspension was woefully overpowered. The Buell ate it up like nothing. The Buell is easily the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden.

I took the CB into the city this morning and my love for it has not diminished in the slightest.

I'm afraid that would make you stick out more, the Iltis is quite rare up here. Most of the good ones went to Afghanistan and we just left them there.

When they were auctioned off as surplus in 2004 most of them were pretty beat up, I lucked out and got one that had been the Commanding Officer's jeep on an Air Base so it was in fairly pristine condition. I have only ever seen one in better condition than mine and it had undergone a frame off restoration.

Who am I kidding? I'm not going to sell it, all I can think about is if I sell my Iltis I will never be able to get another one if I want it.

I might have a problem.Excited

(Sigh)

What is it again that you call someone who repeats the same process expecting different results..

If it's me "lucky"

Yeah my 2nd ex-wife was a piece ... and it was a bad decision.. After that I was never getting married again.. Howver, I apparently knocked up my live-in catholic g/f who while divorced herself, had issues with having a kid outta wedlock.. go figure..

I tried to get "the wheels on the bus go round and round" as our wedding song, but strangely enough, she didn't go for it

Go figure

That was 8 years ago, we have two kids now (neither had any from previous relationships). She knows about the bike affliction, and understands or at least tolerates it.. Its been me whose curtailed the bike thing (down to just 3 bikes ;-)) and trips to be a hands on dad while they were young and in diapers. next year my youngest starts schools and I'm gonna trade in the Harley and get a sport tourer and get out more.. I'll be keeping the cb

She's a keeper...
