Chain making clanking grinding sound.

Local San Diego Fun Bike Center dealership replaced both sprockets and chain with exact OEM parts. Service rep recommended non-OEM stuff (better/cheaper) but I said absolutely not!). When I picked up, Service rep showed where the wear was on the sprockets ... also said it was a good call on my OEM requirement because he did not know that OEM was actually good quality and had rubber dampening on the front sprocket. Said chain was in very good condition but worn (atta-boy for my regular Honda Pro Moly chain lubing). Bike is more responsive off the start line now Smile Next up valves and debugging that darn ticking/clicking noise that sounds like leaky sparkplug wire harness but is not.

Any idea if sprockets/chain would be covered under the Honda extended warranty?

My guess would be that since they are wear items the answer is no.

Yeah ... trying to figure out how to get my CB1100 to Ireland, England, and western Europe (Germany, etc) without breaking the bank Smile

My OEM chain and sprockets had almost 36,000mi (58,000km) on them as a set. Although there was virtually no stretching to speak of (tension adjustment at the new end of the green wear indicator), it began to make more noise over time. Also, there began to be some kinks along the lengths between sprockets. I decided to swap it out with a new high-end RK XW-Ring chain and new OEM sprockets when I had the wheels off for a tire swap.

The old chain was very stiff and the few pins I pushed out to inspect had some galling on them. The original O-rings were in good condition and the original sprockets showed no visible wear (teeth looked to be same shape as the new ones).

The new one runs quietly and should lower the rolling resistance quite a bit.
