 Light problems/electrical
#1
Hey guys I have never had to mess with an electrical issue before on a vehicle and I am needing some guidance on where to troubleshoot first. Bike has 40,000 miles and is my daily rider. Great bike!

So the issue was initially with the headlight, it would turn off every few minutes or so while riding. I have changed the headlight bulb and the issue is still present. Most times when I turn the bike over the headlight is on.

Now I'm having issues with the turn signals. None of them work at all and they don't flicker or turn on or anything when starting the bike, they are currently completely inop. Could this just be a fuse issue or a ground wire issue? I will be getting into the bike over the next couple of days when I have time off.

Also, the computer/clock resets to "1:00" after the bike is turned off for more than a couple of minutes, all other gauges appear to be working normally.

The tail light functions how it is supposed to without any problems. I am a noob at this and just looking for some guidance/help. Thank you

Hmmm, my first guess is a weak battery.

My second, a weak alternator or charging system.

After doing what 1973 said, try a new battery as it sounds like he problem.

Agree with 1973 and LP say - check grounds and battery connection. The circuit that keeps the clock time also keeps the trip odometer reading on after the key is turned off. Do you lose the trip odo reading too?

The 3 areas of electrical problems are:
connections
connections
connections

The erratic, intermittent (now constant) problems suggest poor connections.
Battery failure would manifest itself as non-starting.

Are there any electrical accessories or mods?

No electrical accessories or mods. The trip odo is always correct, it's just the clock that resets when parked. I'll check the battery when I get home. Thank you guys

Well, the blinkers turned out to be a bad fuse. Tightened the battery terminals down, they appear to be okay, didn't check with a meter though.

Still having the headlight go off intermittently for a few minutes at a time and the clock resetting to 1:00.

Edit: just found out there is a different location for the main fuse, I will check that later today.
