I wouldn't, and didn't, choose chrome as I mentioned in a prior post.
You could always do what the police do in riding school- wrap your crash bars with a length of flat fire hose.
But they were made to intentionally drop the bike at, IIRC, 35MPH.

I don't want to belabor the point, but the damage to my bike did include damage to the engine covers, but it also included damage to the headlight cover, the handlebars, the gauge case, the muffler, the footpeg, and and both brake levers among other, smaller items. Some of those may or may not have been damaged if I had engine guards, but there was $2400 damage and about $300 of it was damage to the engine covers. I was putting in an insurance claim regardless. In my particular case, I don't think that the guards saved me anything substantial, but that's just me. engine guards are just not high on my list of priorities when it comes to safety equipment. The fact is that I shouldn't have bought engine guards...I should have spent that $200 on a second pair of boots for my son so he'd have a pair here and at school. THAT is a mistake that I shall not make again.

^^^^^. Sounds reasonable. I don't like the look of engine guards, or Oggy knobs for that matter. If I damage the bike I'll repair it. After all, to me, it's a motorbike, not some kind of Ming vase.
Cheers

I will be posting a few pics as Carmanous suggested and a great way to share our bike hobby. I will try posting Just starting to learn how to use this website Carmanous I am sure I can try and work it out slowly but surely.
Pterodactyl Might be great catching up for a ride on a fine sunny day. Thanks mate. PLEASE can you tell me first how did you manage to pry off the covers I took the bolts off L crank case but the cover was stuck like it will never come off. Did you use the Honda sealing rubber tube how did you restore the rubber seal my feeling is once the cover is taken off the rubber seal will be damaged and cannot be reused. Did you have difficulty finding the matching silver paint?
On another note Houtman is RIGHT Engine Protectors FIRST!! Tells me I should spend time and install mine that are sitting in the packing..
Cheers
Naveed, my apologies for being slow to reply. I did my repairs on the bike and did not remove the cover. Just mask up well to prevent spray drift to other areas. Put the bike on the centre stand for the repair, unless you are lucky enough to have a raiseable bike table. Have a look at this post:

Better still, the whole thread.
This web site will also be helpful. White Knight paints are readily available from Super Cheap etc.
