Your thoughts on the value of top box, saddle and windshield???
#1
As previously posted, I picked up a '14 DLX on Saturday from Powersports East in Bear, Delaware. Nothing but good things to say about the staff there.
I enjoyed my first ride on the CB this morning on the way to work. This ride included secondary roads, city streets and 10 minutes of highway. She was completely refined, smooth, quiet and seamless. The clutch, throttle response and gearbox are as docile as a puppy. I have to get used to the location of the turn signals as I honked the horn a couple of times by accident. I can see why anybody over 5'9" may not like the bike as she did feel a bit compact; not as tight as my old Ducati Monster but certainly not as roomy as my BMW GS.
I don't like the looks of the windshield ($220 new +s/h) and genuine Honda rear top box from Samurider ($460 new+ s/h), even though they are very functional and the fact that the top box will hold a full face helment, I just don't like the looks of the them. I am going to try them out for another week or so but will most likely offer them for sale here pretty soon. I just need to reseach what would be fair prices for them. What are your thoughts? They are both in mint, like new condition.
After only 30 minutes, I was thinking that a aftermarket saddle may be needed as this one won't cut it for me for long rides. Any idea what a fair price would be for a like new Deluxe saddle?

Top boxes, for the most part, are ugly. Never owned one. But I'm considering one for road trips. Since I tend to use the Griso for road trips and use a water proof duffle in that location I probably never will get one.

Windscreens can be almost as ugly, but highly useful on trips (wind fatigue is nothing to poo-poo), keeping rain and large bugs off you as well as wind pressure. Those I do use. Smile

I'd recommend an after market seat, not the deluxe saddle. You'll get something that fits YOUR bum and you will thank it afterwards. Russell Day Long seats are the Gold Standard. I have one on my Griso. Ugly as dog farts but I very rarely put the handsome stock seat on any more. In fact, even my friends have gottin' used to it as last weekend not one commented about it and it the past they wasted no time kidding me about it.

I have the Lamm seat on the CB. Good for about six hours but his customer service is poor and with many other good makers out there to choose from I'd push you towards a Sargent, Corbin (my bum is not fond of Corbins in general but a few have felt good - they tend to polarize folks - but they do look better than the Russell Day Long!) or others - maybe even a local guy to you. This is my third custom seat and I wish I had been aware of them back in the day.

If it's the Honda top box that is made for the CB1100 then it came from Samurider and was not cheap. I purchased one from him and am quite happy with it but only use it when I either need more than a backpack's worth of storage or my wife is riding with me as she likes something supporting her back.
So yeah it doesn't look great but it fits the bike well... you should be able to get close to top dollar for that since it doesn't have to be shipped from Japan. OTOH, the lock mechanism will have to be customized by anyone who buys it to fit his key so that is going to be an issue.
As for the windshield, I have a road comet and it was either that or naked for me as I don't like the looks of the big plexiglass shields. You'll probably find someone to buy that too but I have no idea on price.
Enjoy the bike.

I would just store them in case I was to go on a trip.

I use a fairly large NC Plexistar for maximum wind protection in the winter time. It's big, but it gets the job done.

In the warmer months (which are most months here in the desert), I use the NC Deflector. It's small, unobtrusive and keeps the wind off your torso at highway speeds.

Is the box keyed to your bike? That could make selling it a bit more difficult. I would keep it in the garage for when you might need it because it is a quick on and off procedure. Otherwise you will need to have it re-keyed by a lock smith and that won't be cheap.

Road Comet Fairing, not cheap and keeps wind off lower torso.....CooCase Top Case was cheap, works ok, looks ok, not great, and is quick detachable.... Blaze Saddlebags are sturdy, for soft bags, and handy, Attaching over a removable metal support rod holding them straight and away from the wheel, and velcro to each other, over the seat and leaving only a small adapter block on the foot peg brackets when removed.

Not really, if I sell it, I'll have a copy of my key made and include it in the sale of the box. I trust that nobody here would travel to VA, break into my garage and steal my CB... Big Grin
What are your thoughts regarding a fair asking price shipped to any lower 48?

P.S. I also now have a spare Garmin 660 that I am not using. I am going to list it on the ADV rider Flea Market soon...is anybody here interested in it before I list it for sale there?

It's the bomb diggity of motorcycle specific GPS's. They were over $600 new, but are now down to $500 and I have seen them for $450 used on eBay. I was thinking $375 with the case, car mount and cable since it does NOT come with the RAM mount and cradle as I am leaving those on my CB.

A new one-lock cylinder is available from Samurider and does not cost very much. We even have a tutorial on the board for setting them up and buying the correct one. I don't think a locksmith would charge that much for the job though if one wanted to go that route.

The best idea is to re-key the box. The new owner would most likely want it keyed to their bike anyway.
