Helimot Gloves

I visited Helimot In Fremont, CA this Saturday. I've heard raves about his race suits and gloves from everyone that's heard of this little shop where Helmut and his wife Lynda manufacture their products on site.

This week Helmut is making a pair of his Helimot [url=https://shop.helimot.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=25]Buffalo Pro gloves for me. He is an avid rider and these are the gloves he uses. I tried on his well worn pair and loved them immediately.

He's also a fanatic about fit. After measurements of my hand, fingers (length *and* circumference) and tracing out my hand on paper and trying on several gloves, it was clear my hand was a combination of XL and L.

Helmut is enthusiastic about his products and his leather manufacturing equipment. He took me in back of the shop where the sewing machines are as well as the iron patterns for the glove and hand and thumb shaped irons that heat shape and condition the gloves so they're perfectly formed for riding and comfortably broken in from day one.

The quality of the leather and the stitching seem to be as important as the glove design in delivering the strength and protection that have held up for many locals who've logged 75+ mph offs with hands protected and gloves and seams intact.

I can't wait to pick mine up next week and share a thorough review of these gloves. But I can already give Helmut 5 stars. He's a complete riding enthusiast, dedicated and skilled craftsman and an all around great guy.

Yiiiiii too pricy for my blood, but I do wear and love deerskin gloves. Nothing better feeling imo.

Although they are very nice for leather gloves.....many modern motorcycle gloves have hard protection built into the gloves these days, not sure a mom/pop store has the resources for R&D or manufacturing to produce gloves on the same level...say as Dainese.

Wow, I want a pair of those Valentino Rossi replica gloves at $ 450 pair...

I've known many people who have crashed ( myself, my lil brother and my mom included) none of them skinned their knuckles. It was always their palms. They don't put armor on the palms. Not saying armor on the knuckles is a bad idea... Probably a good idea, but I wish they'd figure out some way to protect the palms.

They do put a carbon slider on the meaty part of your palm on some gloves, the ST's I have, have it.

I have a pair of Dainese gloves that I've used for the past couple of years and I like them, but the stitching started going last year. Fortunately so far not in any of the key structural areas. I've also got some Alpinestar gloves that I'm happy with as well, but only started using them earlier this year (hi-viz models).

Those Helimot's look pretty darn nice, and you can't beat having something custom made just for you (as long as you can afford it). I've never heard of them before. The larger companies like Dainese and Alpinestar surely have more R&D to draw from, but in general, I tend to prefer the quality of products produced by a number of the smaller sized manufacturers, although once again, it does tend to cost more.

I got a pair of [url=http://www.knox-armour.co.uk/product_gloves.html?product=orsaleather]Knox ORSA for warm weather riding. All Knox hand armor has what they call scaphoid sliders; hard pads on the heal of the hand. I also really like the Knox wrist closure system which uses thin metal cables and a ratcheting twist knob. The ORSA glove is sold as an off-road glove but I like the shorter gauntlet and feel well protected for the kind of riding I do.

I've got some really super duper winter riding gloves.
But I don't like them.Their a pain in the butt to put on
and use.I also have a really nice thick Leather jacket
that I seldom wear.It's too thick and heavy.
As are my lengthy leather boots.
I want to be comfortable as possible when riding.
