Moonshine Lunch Run

The forecast is telling us that it should be clear and in the 60s on Saturday. Cheryl and I will be making the trek to Moonshine, IL from just outside Chicago. Our group is leaving at 5:30am.

Yes, the burgers are worth the trip, but the people gathered there are also worth the trip. In fact, the trip is worth the trip.

It's been a big deal on the ST Forum for years. Terry Hammond an ST rider from the area, was kinda the starter of this deal. However, I really don't like crowds, and avoid them when I can. I don't do poker runs, go to sporting events, amusement parks, or touristy locations during peak season. I would never go to Daytona, or Sturgis and I only went to the Indy MotoGP because my wife bought me tickets. I won't go Christmas shopping after Thanksgiving, I even go to the grocery store at 7 am or 10 pm to avoid the crowds, and 2000 motorcyclists jammed onto a little road, going into a little building to get food, is just too much for me. I encourage others to enjoy the experience however.

Mate, you wouldn't like pig day at Laidley then. Every man and his dog turns up. Sometimes up to twenty or even thirty! And that's not counting the dogs.

Not going to do a full ride report on this since I did one for the same ride last year. Instead, I will say that we were cold and tired on the way down and warm and tired by the time we returned. Cheryl was, as usual, a champ; riding 500 miles in about 11 hours including at least an hour and a half, maybe more, at the event.

Home by 4:30pm


250 miles south for a "Moonburger". 250 miles back north for a martini. Cannot think of better rewards for a long day on this beautiful bike.
