Removing stock mufflers? - Rebel73_imp - 02-10-2016 Is there any write-up on this? My Over Racing mufflers came in today and I want to tackle it this weekend. I'm assuming it's relatively straightforward but I've never done it. The instructions that come with the slip-ons simply say to consult the service manual, which I don't have yet. Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk RE: Removing stock mufflers? - MikeOxbig_imp - 02-11-2016 I was going to respond but I have the Standard, not DLX. If it's anything like the Standard model, then it's super easy. Took me 15 minutes, just a few bolts here and there. RE: Removing stock mufflers? - Rebel73_imp - 02-11-2016 Cool, Mike. That's good to know. I can't imagine it would be much different for the DLX. Thanks. RE: Removing stock mufflers? - MikeOxbig_imp - 02-11-2016 You may want to use some thermal/exhaust paste to make sure no leaks. Some people say it's not necessary (and they are probably correct) but I did it anyway just to be safe. I actually used Teflon tape, supposedly an old trick that I discovered somewhere online (works wonders and you don't need to wait for it to dry/cure like the paste). RE: Removing stock mufflers? - JF Coastal_imp - 02-11-2016 Super easy. Few bolts and common sense. You got this. Post some pictures when done . RE: Removing stock mufflers? - Rebel73_imp - 02-11-2016 Cool, guys. Thanks for your input and tips. I'll post some pics and try to put up a video, too! Are you selling your stock DLX mufflers? Removing stock mufflers? - Cormanus - 02-11-2016 You're the man, Rebel. I admire your confidence. As a klutz, one of the scariest phrases I know is "Super easy, just a few bolts ..." It always, always ends in tears. Well, my friend, in all honesty there have been several times where halfway through a project I told myself "Why didn't I just pay to have this done!!!???". But somehow I've managed to fumble my way through through all of them and come out fine. It's all part of the learning process, I guess. Also, the information available on forums like these helps alot. (02-11-2016, 06:29 AM)Mike546_imp Wrote:(02-11-2016, 04:31 AM)Rebel73_imp Wrote: Cool, guys. Thanks for your input and tips. Should I decide to sell them I'll let you know. (02-11-2016, 04:03 AM)MikeOxbig_imp Wrote: You may want to use some thermal/exhaust paste to make sure no leaks. Home Depot? RE: Removing stock mufflers? - MikeOxbig_imp - 02-11-2016 I bought the Teflon tape from Amazon (since I was already ordering some other stuff from there anyway) but I'm very sure you can find it at Home Depot. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D7K8E0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 Pretty self-explanatory but here's a good link with nice pics to show how it's applied to an exhaust: http://www.s1000rrforum.com/forum/s1000rr-hp4-do-yourself/3262-what-takes-install-akrapovic-exhaust-most-any-full-system.html |
