Spoke wheels on a 2014 with mags. - FLYTYM_imp - 05-04-2018 I just bought a 2014 and the first order of business is to build a nice set of spoke wheels. Will the OEM spoke hubs from any year 2013-2015 bolt up to my 2014 with no modifications? I’m looking at a set of SUN brushed hoops with stainless steel spokes,19 front 17 rear slightly thinner rim up front and the widest rim-tire I can do on the rear. RE: Spoke wheels on a 2014 with mags. - Cormanus - 05-04-2018 The only OEM spoked wheels were on the 2014 EX model sold in Japan and Europe. It was not imported to the USA. As far as I know the wheels were 18”. That’s exactly what I’m looking for and as stated it won’t be cheap but with what I have in mind for this bike it will be a very nice build. If anybody’s as old as I am,57 think 750K back in late 70s-early 80s. RE: Spoke wheels on a 2014 with mags. - Lord Popgun - 05-05-2018 Ha Ha! 57 isn’t old on this board ![]() Check out the poll on this thread. The OEM front hub is straight fit in the forks, axle / brake rotors / spacers all line up perfectly. The OEM rear hub of the spoked wheel has a thinner axle than the mag wheel. I had to make sleeves so that the axle would sit neatly in the swing arm. Also the rear brake caliper carrier is different so the easiest solution is to get one from a 2014 spoked CB1100 (Samurider), and you'll need a longer rear brake hose. Wonder what tyre choices you will have with a 19" front. Obviously you'll need to consider overall wheel outside diameter so that your new 19" fits inside the fender unless you plan on fabricating a new mounting bracket. Rear end has plenty of room to play with and from what the other members are saying the 160/60 doesn't negatively impact handling, and in a 17" offers plenty of economical tyre choices for every type of riding application. Good luck with your project, it sounds very interesting. I’ve thought about the front fender clearance with a 19 inch tire, the tire won’t be as tall as the OEM tire so it will be close but if necessary I’ll move the fender a hair. I’m a maintenance mechanic by profession and have access to a mill, lathe so I can make what I need within reason. Thank to all for the info, keep it coming! |
