O2 Sensor Socket - Houtman_imp - 12-13-2013 Instead of paying $35 to $50 for a special flare socket, I have made my own in about 15 minutes. Using a 17 mm 3/8 drive deep socket bought for $5 at Northern Tools and using painters tape to mark the area to be ground off, which I did with a 4.5 inch angle grinder. Keep water on hand to cool the socket in between grinding to prevent bluing and losing its temper!! It works perfectly. A damn sight easier then trying to add the picture for all of you to see my handiwork. RE: O2 Sensor Socket - ari cb_imp - 12-13-2013 Great idea. Thanks for sharing! RE: O2 Sensor Socket - the Ferret - 12-14-2013 I assume you need this tool only if you are changing exhaust systems? RE: O2 Sensor Socket - The Spaceman_imp - 12-14-2013 Similar but different: I've made a couple "banjo" wrenches over the years. That's a box-end wrench with s slot cut out so you can slide it over brake and fuel lines onto the coupling nut. They help avoid rounding the nut vs. a regular open-end that only grips two sides. Super easy to make, worth the effort to avoid damaging those nuts. RE: O2 Sensor Socket - HondaJon_imp - 12-14-2013 Houtman, Good job. How long did it take for you to make? I sucked it in and bought the Koken socket.... RE: O2 Sensor Socket - cbfan_imp - 12-14-2013 I went cheap and used an old wrench. RE: O2 Sensor Socket - HondaJon_imp - 12-15-2013 Props to cbfan for getting it out with that wrench. Mine was crazy tight and there is almost no clearance. I ate the $35 for the Koken. RE: O2 Sensor Socket - the Ferret - 12-15-2013 Holy crap, that does look like a tight fit. RE: O2 Sensor Socket - cbfan_imp - 12-15-2013 yep, tight but alittle liquid wrench and firmly holding down on the wrench got it out with no major dramas. |
