Brake pads down after 8000 km - Paul_imp - 03-12-2016 Hi there, I was washing my CB and, as always, looked in every corner to see any problem. My front brake pads are very very thin and just after 8000km !! I called my mechanic who was so surprised he asked me to show him the motorcycle. Indeed the pads are used a lot. It is even more shocking because at the 6000km service he said the pads were already 50% used. Does anyone had a similar problem ? I hear a light and uneven sound when I ride, has anyone the same light sound ? I plan to go on a road trip next week, hope to find and fix the problem before that ! RE: Brake pads down after 8000 km - Django - 03-12-2016 I changed front and rear pads at 14,000 km. The second set (Brembo sinter) seems to last longer. RE: Brake pads down after 8000 km - Lord Popgun - 03-12-2016 I did a search and found one member got about the same mileage you did and some with mileage like Django. And you did say you use the brakes a lot. They are wear items and if you ride hard, well are going to wear them out At least they are pretty cheap.
RE: Brake pads down after 8000 km - the Ferret - 03-12-2016 I have just under 19,000 miles on mine. Plan on changing them out at next oil change or when I get tires whichever comes first. RE: Brake pads down after 8000 km - kennyw - 03-13-2016 I put new rear pads on my bike when I purchased it around 7,000 miles (11,265 km). I am now at 20,000 miles (32,186 km) and it looks like I need to replace both front and rear soon. Not sure which rotor it's coming from, but it's like the pad lightly rubs the rotor once a rotation. I would assume it's a slightly warped rotor? I have no pulsing when braking so I haven't really worried about it. I only hear the noise when going slow through something like a parking lot when the sound reflects off parked cars. It's very quiet though. RE: Brake pads down after 8000 km - Paul_imp - 03-16-2016 I do ride a lot in Paris and so use the brakes every 10 meters. But 8000Km still is quite fast! Particularly when I look at your answers. Olekzap, thanks I feel less alone I am going to change the pads this Saturday and I asked the mechanic to look closely if he sees any problem with the brakes system.I keep you posted RE: Brake pads down after 8000 km - redbirds_imp - 03-20-2016 Has much to do with where you ride as how. When I lived in Jacksonville and commuted daily in traffic, I was lucky to get 20K miles out of pads on my P/U. Brake pads on bikes wore out fast also. Living in very rural south Georgia now it's not unusual to get 100K miles on pads for a P/U and 20K or better on the bike. My Nissan P/U has 92K now and the pads still look good for another 10K. |
