Engine Surge - Jaychaynes_imp - 06-29-2017
Hey guys,
I'm coming up on 12k miles on my 14. I've noticed that after a gear change (Particularly the lower gears) there's a little bit of a lag in the power. I'll release the clutch and twist the throttle and the power first lags, then surges. I've checked my chain. What else would you suggests?

Try Seafoam first, you may have some dirty gas or injectors.
Next check outside spark plugs for condition. They should be clean with tan ceramics. (inside plugs should be same as outside plugs so check outside first. If they look good don't check inside plugs. I changed mine at 25K but it wasn't necessary.

I think stale/dirty gas is a plausible explanation. Considering the miles on your bike, does it tend to sit unused for lengthy periods? If so, regular treatment of the fuel with Seafoam or Stabil may be something to consider for the future.

Yes..gas tank. For a 3.7 gallon tank add about 6 or 7 oz to a full tank. If you only have a partial tank in it just add 3 1/2 or 4 oz and then ride it for at least 10 or 20 miles to run it into the system.

The delay you are experiencing sounds similar but more dramatic than the effect you can get when the engine runs lean from the stock setup. I added a power commander and had my air/fuel ratios re-mapped on a dyno and it eliminated the throttle lag. But mine was simply the lag from the lean settings from the factory not any restrictions in the fuel lines.
