Front rotors, are they “floating” ? - mattmcuomo@yahoo.com - 04-27-2018
Do they float or not? It looks like they are bolted solid to the rim. Is that the “floating” mechanism bolted to the rim? (2014 Standard)

Ha. Yep. I just found that online. It shows that the bolt is in a “collar” and behind that is a spring with a washer between the rotor and rim too

Yeah, but it depends on your definition of a "floating" brake disc. To racers this means a set up where the disc mounting bolts have the ability to slide outward when the rotor expands due to massive heat build up. This prevents a warped disc or pulsation under braking. True "floating" discs will have slots with sliders in the place of the bolt holes found on most motorcycle or high performance car discs. Only really necessary under extreme racing conditions in my opinion.

I had replaced brake pads with some not so good ones, they made a lot of build up on rotors for one and that along with lots of highway dirt and grime built up in the “floating system “. I removed the rotors to clean out the “floating” parts. I put good EBC sintered pads and cleaned the sh!t out of everything.
Big improvement.
