Handlebar clamps - Buzzard Biker_imp - 02-02-2020
Hi all,
Are the handlebar clamps on my '13 CB1100 specific to the model or are they generic?
I want to change the clamps from silver to black but I know a genuine Honda parts will cost a pretty penny.
I'm fitting a black Renthal 758 bar so want matching clamps.

One thing to consider, and it may not be a big deal to you, is that the clamp has an oblong mounting surface on the bottom. Most aftermarket clamps will have a round bottom mounting surface. That means if you used something else, you may have a round clamp sitting on an oblong mounting area on the triple tree. I’d have a problem with that visually but I’m pretty ocd.
Rustoleum Satin Black could be your friend here. I’ve done just as you are looking to, and it came out perfect. Depending on the gloss level of the bars, maybe semi-gloss.

The CB1100 handlebar clamps are specific to CB1100s, at least in the US market. They top bridge clamp (fork top clamp) has pressed-in rubber bushings, so the handlebar clamps have a long, unthreaded shank portion that is a snug fit in the bushing's inner sleeve.
There are other bikes that use loose, replaceable rubber bushings, but the shank portion maybe longer or different diameter.
As Gone in 60 said, spray paint is your best bet.

According to Babbits online OEM Honda parts, a set of silver upper and lower clamps would run $75. Two options for you other than paint, that would be more durable, are Powder Coat, and black Aluminum Anodize. The guy that does my occasional Powder Coat would charge his minimum which is $20, for a clamp set. Aluminum Anodize in black would not be very expensive for a clamp set either, but would take a little research to find a shop that does it. Any of these options are obviously a lot less than new parts, if in fact they are even available in black.

The lower half of the clamp has the sleel shaft cast into it, and you can't anodize steel or iron.

My Bad, I did not consider the steel stud, good catch Pekingduck! Powder Coat would work though, with the stud taped off during application.
