Clutch pull - mpuhl_imp - 02-20-2023
My new to me 2013 requires quite a bit of hand strength to pull the clutch lever in. Everything seems to be adjusted and working great on the bike, it's just that that lever is firmer than I'd like. Is this pretty standard for this lever? Being a hydraulic clutch, are there any adjustments that can be made other than changing the reach via the dial on the lever?

I would look into flushing the clutch and brake fluids (front and back) as the bike is 10 years old. See if that makes any difference for you.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to ease clutch lever pull except getting softer clutch springs, which will raise the likelihood of slipping/burnt clutch.
The 2017 models have a clutch designed to require less hand pressure, but to my knowledge, no one has tried retro-fitting one in an earlier bike.

I was having trouble with my clutch on my '13. I took off the reservoir cap, and the expansion membrane in there was unseated and all wrinkled up. I pulled it out, straightened it, reinstalled it, added about a tablespoon of fluid, and all good. You may have a kink in the line, or some other kind of blockage that doesn't allow the transfer of energy to the master cylinder. Maybe the master cylinder has a leak. Inspect the whole system.

I concur - a possible issue easily identified. Had that happen once on an '84 CB750SC hydraulic clutch. Anyway, the same remedy.
