2017 Headlight ~ LED type - No great performance thinking of converting - 17-CB-002 - 07-07-2017

Just my 5 cents on the 2017 LED type headlight.
Last night was the first time I rode my 2017 in the dark, I was disappointed with the "brightness" and "pattern" performance.
I understand that HONDA has to meet DOT specification in regards to luminescence, although the colour of the light is white, it is not bright enough on the black asphalt.

May be I am used to my CBX upgraded H4 LED headlight brightness, this CB1100 LED headlight is just light not bright enough - it is similar to a car day-time running light i.e running e headlight in series therefore 6 volts.

I have 2 questions.
Q1, Can any one confirm whether a 2016 headlight uses an H4 bulb?
Q2 If yes, I want to convert to previous model headlight unit - only keeping my chrome headlight bucket and using the lens and ring.
Thanks

The stock headlight on my 2014 is not fantastic either – but it is the nature of the beast, single headlight old style.

Alain, I'm not sure whether the 2010-16 use H4. The spec in the user manual just says 60/55W. I do know I was surprised to be able to buy a replacement bulb in a country service station so it's obviously a common standard kinda bulb.

BTW, I changed the subject of your post as it was right at the 85 character limit which meant each person responding has to modify it after the forum software adds "RE:"

According to this thread, people have used both an H4 and a 9003 bulb in the CB1100: [url=http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=296&page=2]http://cb1100forum.com/forum/showthread....296&page=2

Alain,

Have you tried adjusting the angle? I was very unhappy with the performance of the stock light on my '13. It didn't seem very bright and the pattern was inadequate. I spent 15 min. on a dark road with a wrench and that was a vast improvement. The factory aiming was much to low. Once adjusted upward I got a broader, longer beam that worked much better.

Just a thought.

Thanks, will try by adjusting and get back.
I disassembled the headlight and to my surprise, the LED headlight is a 8 or 10 pin connector.

I can forget about updating it to H4 unless, I have a wiring diagram of the LED headlight circuit on hand.

Also, there is barely any room inside the bowl, there as wires cramped EVERYWHERE inside

Does anyone know if the '17 service manual for the US cover the RS model?
