With the dwindling number of ST's and the high mileage any bikes are now welcome and a variety usually show up. OOPs. I didn't mean to hijack the thread to a STOC promo. Jim RE: CB1100 good for Touring?! - Frulk_imp - 06-14-2018 Speaking of touring. Just finished prepping bike for tomorrows 600 mile, 1-day Idaho loop ride mostly on secondary roads with little traffic. Adjusted chain (16,500 miles on the bike). Double checked oil. All good. Dropped the aftermarket adjustable foot-pegs bought off the forum from their highest to their lowest position. WOW!!! I've been riding them since putting them on in the highest, most sporting position and dropping them 3 inches makes the bike feel like a Gold Wing (hyperbole I know). Rode around the hood and what a difference. Really opened up the seating position. Put a magnetic tank bag on, charging the removable powerpack for the iPhone and put on a long RAM arm to clear the tank bag. Dropped 3 32 oz MSR bottles full of ethanol free gas in old tube socks so they don't clank around in the top box and filled the tank to the max on the center stand with same gas. I'll roll out around 7 AM and will post a trip report with pics afterwards in the seat time section. 68 years ago today US Army Medic SSgt David Bleak earned the MOH in Korea. I have four bikes at the moment. Two dual sports, Versys 650 and Harley Davidson Softail. I would like to blend the Versys and Softail into one bike. The CB1100 seems ideal. Cool looks with good handling and reliability. I mostly use the bikes for short trips around town. I may do some light touring. But such touring would be 300 to 400 miles per day leisurely touring. I read through this entire thread. Great information. Makes me think CB1100 would be a perfect choice for me. I really like the look. And my first bike was a 1974 CB550 Four. But I don't like selling and my wife already does not like four bikes in the garage. Kind of thinking she will like five even less. OTOH - I have two boys who would gladly take a bike or two off my hands..... Hmmmm...... RE: CB1100 good for Touring?! - Cormanus - 06-15-2018 Welcome, Sorg. You seem to have the future well planned when there are excellent deals on left over 2014 bikes to be had. RE: CB1100 good for Touring?! - Lord Popgun - 06-15-2018 Welcome Sorg! If you liked that ‘74 CB550 Four you are going to LOVE the CB1100. RE: CB1100 good for Touring?! - Banned_imp - 06-15-2018 Ok, that is the dirtiest picture of a CB1100 I have seen yet. Awesome. RE: CB1100 good for Touring?! - Wisedrum - 06-15-2018 No problem with a good windshield to travel longer distances on highways for hours. I always ride with a MRA one. In combination with a streched out tankbag it's even better. 120km/h also a bit more is no problem for days and hours. The handlebars are a little high, but it's the CB style and I don't change it. So the wind gets a lot of surface to blow his song on your upright riding position. A lower one would surely decrease it. I've been searching for some and haven't found anything that looks good. How much of an adjustment do they require in the shift and rear brake levers? |
