RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - branew_imp - 12-01-2013 Thanks to Chip for his license plate mod inspiration I decided to give it a go. After inspecting the existing bracket I decided to try and repurpose it. 30 minutes later after a little cutting and painting I was done. Very pleased. Zero Dollars spent. RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - Siggy Javotnik_imp - 08-16-2014 $4 and a walk to the neighborhood hardware store. Oregon requires a red reflector on the back too -- 2 came free with the bike as license plate bolts. Ditched the superfluous one. RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - Henrik_imp - 08-16-2014 You guys are lucky for having such small license plates in the US. Here in Switzerland they are a bit bigger, and so there is not much we can do to improve the look. Mind you, in Italy and Germany the plates are positively huge!
RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - The Spaceman_imp - 08-17-2014 Its a license plate and a mud-flap! RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - TINK_imp - 08-17-2014 Problem solved ... Seeing as I'm an FAA Certified Aircraft Mechanic (A&P) I had to go with an aircraft quality aluminum bracket. TINK RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - NightRider_imp - 08-17-2014 Very, very nice. Looks professional. I wish I could do that kind of stuff. Wish I had not seen this thread though, now I've gotta go out and stare at my license plate frame for awhile...I was happy with it until now. Somehow I deleted my hardware-store $4 fix -- here it is (no need to use the wood screws, just two brackets. No drilling involved.): RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - Papa Weeley_imp - 08-18-2014 Siggy - what is that bracket you used? RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - Siggy Javotnik_imp - 08-22-2014 Just a 3" mending bracket, see attached. RE: Getting rid of the ugly license plate bracket. - emptysea - 03-08-2015 Finally got around to performing the Chip Beck License Plate Mod....sort of. Still need to get a minimalist frame and I will need to replace the bolts as the hardware store didn't have what I wanted. The bike Ned's a wash and I didn't bother to pull it out so the pictures aren't the best, but it looks great to me in person. Thanks for the idea and the instructions, Chip! ![]()
