RE: CB1100 Idle speed instability problem - pdedse - 10-20-2017 (10-19-2017, 11:02 PM)johnf514_imp Wrote: pdedse, if you can, have the dealership reference Central Florida Powersports work on my bike. It was work done in November 2016 with tech Jimmy Le. Thanks, I'll email the SM this. Was yours the case where Honda sent a tech from the outside to help diagnose the problem? RE: CB1100 Idle speed instability problem - johnf514_imp - 10-20-2017 pedese, correct. From their email: "We actually opted to not reset the ecu untill after the new IAC ( Idle air control) installation. Once the new valve was installed we started the bike to let it relearn the parameters, and idle went perfectly back to 1100 rpm. after a few other diagnostics we then reset the ecm again, So the new IAC did solve the problem." From their email: Is the idle speed instability considered one problem or 3 completely different problems? 1. High idle only; very ridable 2. Low-idle and stalling unridable 3. Combination low+ high rpm+stalling unridable And which does the IAV cure? RE: CB1100 Idle speed instability problem - johnf514_imp - 10-20-2017 I had issues with high idle, but also occasionally exhibited low idle stalling. Replacing the IACV cured both for me. From their email: Low idle does not always result in stalling for a number of us with low idle / low + high idle issues. Mine has stalled only once, and that's because I didn't realize it was at low idle and so I didn't give it enough gas to compensate as I let clutch out. I believe Riko asked a few times what happens when the throttle is blipped at low rpm @ 500. His would always stall. I don't do that, so I don't know. My low idle holds at 500, and when I take off, it goes. Most times it hits a low of 600 and then creeeeeeeeps up to 700, 750, maybe to even 900. And someone correct me if I'm wrong, one member had the IAVC replaced and it did not correct the problem. And this is why I'm toying with the idea of having the dealership do a diagnostic to see whether they ID the IAVC as the problem. RE: CB1100 Idle speed instability problem - Wisedrum - 10-26-2017 Today I tried something with the low idle problem of my CB 2013. First it had a high idle thing going, which mysteriosly disappeard after some attempts of mine, but somehow seems to transform into a low idle problem from time to time after a while. All I did was to drive to the 50km nearby Honda Trader and let the Software being updated. He got it from the General Honda Center Germany in Frankfurt after my request. The operation lasted 2,5 hours and cost me nothing. No mistakes were found during the former diagnosis. Everything was fine, the CB reported no faults. He explained that he will declare it as a garantee support, because the software update will fix some bugs in the fuel system. It is programmed for doing so. I appreciated his friendliness because my bike is nearly 5 years old and has run over 43.000km, of course being out of the garantee time and not even bought by him. But he had seen it during the 1.000km inspection and the 1. TÜV. So he remembers me and have my data in his customer system. I observe my CB while I'm riding it, to see if the update has any effect concerning this low idle thing. All I can say now after the latest 120km, the idle was good always a little above 1.000/min. Never in a lower range. I will report some news, if it's again the other way round. Wisedrum RE: CB1100 Idle speed instability problem - johnf514_imp - 10-26-2017 Hi Wisedrum, I'm curious, does the software update involve resetting the ECU? If so, this temporarily fixed my high idle condition as well, but it returned after a time. When I took the bike back to the dealer to have it fixed for the last time, I asked them not to reset the ECU until after they confirmed that replacement of the IACV had cured the high idle. RE: CB1100 Idle speed instability problem - Wisedrum - 10-26-2017 I'm not an IT professional, so I can't give you a right answer to your question. I think they flashed, maybe reseted the ECU but did not asked if they did. They updated the software of the CB with a new programm using the input where they did the diagnostic thing. Doesn't it automatically mean they have overwritten the old programm of the ECU, or can only be parts of it been overwritten? I'm not an expert. One member in our German CB Forum told me, the software update will only cure the low idle problem not the high one. The high one is gone from alone, so I'm still hopeful, with no shown faults in the computer, that the low mysterium is also away now. Sorry Mate, missed this.... Yes, I had to have the ECU Re- Re- Flashed by Guhl. All good now. best Kev (10-20-2017, 07:46 AM)lederkombi_imp Wrote:(10-20-2017, 06:53 AM)johnf514_imp Wrote: I had issues with high idle, but also occasionally exhibited low idle stalling. Hey LederKombi, In the UK I had a new/latest software update for the ECU, from the Honda Dealer. Apparently, it was brought out to deal with this problem. It's worked so far... Think German guys have had the same upgrade, so guessing in Switzerland you may be able to get it. It's free and takes no time... worth a try first. Then you can throw money at it ;-) |
