It's called... a BELT! And I wish the CB had one. I've never had to do anything to the belt on my HD... it's 10 years old with 22000 miles on it. And... the rear wheel stays clean! What a concept.
Belts are serious hp eaters. They're not nearly as efficient as chains. We don't notice it, because you can't change one motorcycle from belt to chain and back again, but I have a belt-driven bicycle and I can absolutely feel how much more efficient a well-lubricated and adjusted chain is.
But the cleanliness is nice. I can ride this bike to work without worrying about ruining my tan work slacks.
To answer the OP's title question: I lube & clean my motorcycle chains about every other tank fill-up (about 400-450 miles) and I usually get about 30K miles per chain.
