I put a Sylvania Silverstar H4 in before I even tested out the stocker. I also adjusted the light bezel slightly and now have excellent low beam light. Remarkable in fact. The high beam on the other hand is a little high. Oh well, I don't use it that often, and don't need to!
I might go HID but only if I get some heated clothes.

I entertained an LED front bulb option. After researching on line and watching customer videos on u tube, I discovered a lot to do with the effectiveness of the LED bulb was based on the type of reflector in the headlight bucket. I also noticed the orientation of the reflector in the actual LED bulb may impact how the light casts as well. While the overall brightness was usually pretty good, the majority of the time people were less satisfied with the spread of the beam. I ended up going with the tried and true option and upgraded to the Piaa 70456 Extreme White Plus Anti Vibration bulb. It's an H4 Halogen bulb with stock 60/55 wattage. It's identical fitment and wattage to our stock H4 bulbs. It claims to have measured effectiveness of a 100/110 watt bulb, "providing a cool white light output that increases color recognition, depth perception and contrast over our stock headlamps." The tip of the bulb has a blue glare defector on it vs our stockers have grey. As with everything, I'll hold onto the stock bulb for back up. Snow up here in New England has kept me from road testing, however, I think it will make me more visible to oncoming traffic. Before and after photos posted. t

Can the electrical system HANDLE a constant 100-watt draw?
How about the headlight wiring itself?
For the CB...I'd entertained the thought of going 55/100 watts...have the HI there for the rare times its used.
One reason I haven't, is that I'm seldom out after dark anymore. Too many deer on the road, and no real reason to be riding after dark. All I ride for, is gone with the sun - it's cold, dark, dangerous. It's a good way, not to have a pleasant ride, but to die messily on the pavement.
So...while good lights are always essential, for now I'll stick with the stock unit.

Before and after photos posted. tI was at my Honda dealers today ordering my Select saddlebags and a pair of RLETS when I spied this same front fender on an original, pristine 1976 CB750 sitting in the showroom. The dealer said it would be there (not for sale) until the building fell down. But knowing him, he'll sell it for the right price.

I actually invested in the Piaa 60/55 watt Hyper White bulb (same wattage as stock) more for additional daytime visibility, especially at intersections/head on view vs night riding. I'm with JussPassinThru about night riding. Lots of deer around my area as well. I know a few motorcyclists who "ran" into deer and it wasn't a pretty sight. I'm seldom out after dusk and if I am it's a few miles from my home/hotel.

The stock wiring is under sized and drops about 1 1/2 volts between the battery and headlight. I installed the headlight relay kit from Eastern Beaver and the Sylvania 9003/H4 Ultra bulb. Very noticeable increase in brightness. Haven't been ablevto ride at night yet to actually test under riding conditions.
