Center stand use can be fun. On this bike I do what I normally do, grab the handlebar and grab rail - one in each hand. With my right foot I'll lower the center stand until it hit the ground. Tilting the bike away from me I'll use my foot to tap the center stand on the ground while tilting to make sure BOTH feet of the center stand are on the ground.
Once I know the stand is properly in contact with the pavement I'll rock the bike back a bit, when the bike is coming back I'll stand on the center stand arm with my full weight and lift the rear a bit with my right arm (while it's tempting to man handle the bike up by lifting with your shoulder; and I get sucked into this mode from time to time, your body weight should be enough to push the center stand down under the bike).
It takes some practice but this bike is easier than many.

Just to be sure, you are checking the window when it is NOT running, yes? Once you start it up, you will not be able to see oil in the window.

When in doubt read your manual, it says 3.9 liters, It's on the spec. page 128. You can't see the oil line because you put a little too much in, you can always loosen the oil filter and drain a little out but it ain't hurting anything. 4 liters is = to 1.06 gallons, I often wondered why they set this up to use 4.1 gallons, probably where these are made they use the metric system. I guess that extra QT of oil will last me a long time!
