RE: Oil level question - GoldOxide_imp - 03-28-2019 I have never lost a mysterious measurable amount of oil on the CB. If you are burning any, inspect the final exhaust ports for oily build-up. Flat black carbon build-up might be present, particularly on cold morning start-ups as condensation works its way out of the cold final pipes. But oil is heavier, shinier spotting at the muffler end. A more direct way is to inspect the spark plugs for oil deposits. The only other way out is a seal leak, but that should be much more obvious. All else being equal, fluctuations in oil level could mean more is stored up in the engine, but I am having a tough time selling that to myself since oil will eventually find its way back to the sump. RE: Oil level question - dbarkdoll_imp - 03-28-2019 Checking it in the same exact place, facing the same direction, is important. What may look level to the naked eye often is not. For example, my driveway looks pretty level, but I get drastically different readings depending on which direction it is facing parked there. It slopes to the right basically. RE: Oil level question - Rocky_imp - 03-28-2019 Interesting comments about ground level Yes indeed, gravity may not be your friend when checking oil level.
