I just finished a 3 day 1000+ mile weekend with my dad with a lot of interstate/highway riding and it is the smoothest bike I have owned. Granted, i'm coming from v-twins so my idea of "smooth" is likely not those that have ran through numerous I4 type bikes. I was amazed at how smooth it was and except for the torture rack of a seat was very comfortable and could easily see taking much longer trips on this bike.

I got (2) 14 deluxe models no vibes from either bike! The bike does have a counterbalancer that's adjustable
Also may not be a 15 model. But I have not heard! I have noticed in my area prices on the new 13 & 14 going back up as if thou no 15! If no 15 models the 13 & 14 models will hold value

Vibration? This bike is a pure joy to ride. seemless transmission, perfect ergos, smooth torque curve across the entire rpm range combined with minimum vibration. My dealer made a comment to the effect that he had sold many Honda's for a nickel. I said "do what"? At this point my bike was on the center stand in the service bay. He then instructed the technician to fire it up. As the bike was idling he reached in his pocket removed a nickel and set it on the top of the crankcase on its edge and the nickel did not move. I was amazed by this. He then stated "how's that for smooth".

Not an issue for me. Coming from my SV, my initial reaction to the CB was that it seemed incredibly smooth, almost turbine-like with linear driving power delivery.
Only way to know whether it'll work for you is to find a dealer that'll let you take a test ride. Best of luck!!

Oh the joys of I-5... I've done that trip several times on a Hawk 400. One particular one was memorable as it was a long slog up I5 in the wind and rain at night. Not too many fond memories of that one but I was young.
Yeah, I might be overthinking it. I'm glad to hear that a) it's not everyone and b) for some that have issues a simple fix resolved it.
I may still wait for the 2015s to be announced just to see what if anything they tweak (and also for the 2014s to drop in price a bit more).

Actually, I avoid I-5 with a passion, its too boring. I'll take an extra hour up the 101 just for the better scenery. Last time I came from SF to LA I did all of about 100 miles on the 101, 15 on I5, and 400 on back roads/highways. Took 12 hours but it was lots of fun.

When the CB1100 came out in 2012 I said "wow, it would be perfect if it only had ABS, a sixth gear, and a gear speed indicator".

I went by a bunch of dealerships today to check out a bunch of motorcycles. The new Interceptor is kind of nice but I find the seating too forward for my tastes as I grew up riding CB400/CB650 etc. And I find all the Kawasakis, Suzukis, Yamahas, and modern standard/street-fighter bikes do not at all look like a motorcycle should. The only one that really made me go "wow!" was of course the CB1100 (they only had a 2013 in stock and that isn't in the running for me).
Dealers around here are rather hesitant to let me test drive a brand new bike and I haven't found any deluxe demos in the area. At this point I'm willing to wait for the 2015 model (any announcements coming in the next couple of months) to see if they tweaked the bike at all.
My question : How much of a problem/issue is vibration on the 2014 CB1100? What is your experience?
Vibration affects everyone differently. I personally am very sensitive to high frequency inline fours, apparently much more than everyone else. I sold my Katana 750 and Yam FZ1 because they put my hands to sleep, yet I go all day on my V-Strom and Bonneville because the frequency is lower.
On my 2013, I had to change the gearing to make it more tolerable. But having ridden a 2014 on the highway, I would say it is as vibration-free as a Gold Wing or CBX.
It all depends on what bothers you. So what bikes have you ridden that vibrate too much? And which ones are no problem?
One last comment. Putting the bike in gear on the centerstand would allow you to run up to highway speeds minus the wind buffeting and road vibration. Not a substitute for a test ride, but may give you a sense of the vibration.

I don't mean to preach, but sometimes it's not the vibrations from the motorcycle, it's our own physiology, and a bike that doesn't bother other people will bother a few others. Maybe it's the coming onset of carpal tunnel or arthritis, or some other bone, muscle, or tendon ailment of some kind and we blame vibrations. What discomfort we feel in our hands could come from our elbow area, what we feel in'our elbow could come from our shoulders, etc. sometimes experimenting with changing the angle of or reach to the handlebars lessens our discomfort.

I detect very little vibrations, not at all an issue. the bike is very smooth for me and more so after break-in. I use synthetic blend, it is smoother.

to me this bike is almost perfect for me - I am 5.7'', it fits like glove. I sometime take her to a long ride on almost deserted back roads, the bike feels very nice. Able to keep up with sport bike if I muster enough courage, able to keep up with HD riders who possess a huge amount of torques. Someone say this bike is too docile compared to GRX750 but it is not designed to be a sport bike in first place. It is actually designed for Japanese market the first place where women can ride it.
Being an old schooled, I like steel frame, not spaced age appearance. This bike use high quality part, I am sure it will look good after 10 yrs with reasonable care. I hope Honda will bring the CB1300, an kick butt bike for torque lovers.
