Hello again! Finally had a chance to go for a quick ride early this morning.

Few items:
The ride consisted of freeway riding (approx 110km/h) and curves (approx 80kmh) for about 200km.
I'm 175 cms tall and medium built.
I've also got lowered handlebar put so I'm a bit more hunched forward compared to with the standard handlebar.
I've got Shark full face helmet and always wear earplugs.
I've never owned a full sized screens.

While on the freeway straights I tested different settings, from the lowest position to the highest. I moved my left hand around to feel the airflow while on the straights. I found that the lower positions meant that more air will hit you on the chest, helmet and shoulders. The higher you set the lip, the higher the airflow goes, and for some reason, the wider it goes (i.e. it hits your shoulders less).

Today I settled for the top two positions because the airflow hit just above the the top of the visor (about 3cm) and does not hit my shoulders. It seems that the air from the top of the visor down, is quite clean. I was able to crack open the visor (to reduce fogging) and leave it open without excessive wind coming through. The visor didnt even close on me at highway speeds.

Wind noise in my helmet was reduced quite a bit aswell. Although, hiding right behind the screen would reduce it even further...

The screen did not cause any vibration, you can see it flexing just slightly but I did not see it as a problem. I think it's because of it's thickness and it's shape. The fittings were sturdy and didn't move / shifted at all after my trip.

All in all, I'm quite happy with it. It is quite impressive for a small screen especially because you can adjust the airflow quite easily.

Just one note on the looks, the tinted colour is more purplish than grey. I bought this one not knowing exactly how it would look on the bike and was thinking of spraying the inside of the screen with plastidip to make it solid black if I didn't like the tint... I may do it in the future but for now I'm happy with it.

Yeah, thanks Ari. Sounds like a good one.

I've just ridden quite a long way on the CB with no screen and quite quickly found a comfortable position and so got home wondering whether I need one at all. The jury's still out, but this looks like a reasonable option.

Is it possible to remove the secondary screen? I find that this thing seems very functional but without the upper screen, it also looks very "cafe" ish.

I think you can. There's a couple of hex screws on each side. You'll be left with holes though.



Alternatively you could get one without the small screen . I think its this its called the Speed Screen.

Yup. I actually talked to a MRA rep and got that cleared up. They also have the extra screen in a clip on version so you can just have your own vario screen without holes.

Consequently, I'm getting a comet but want to try the clip on secondary screen for longer rides.

As a relative noobie to the forum, I probably missed where you've posted a report about your results elsewhere. After a recent 300-mile road trip, I've determined that some kind of wind protection for highway riding would be very useful.

Were you ever able to install your Comet? Which model, RC1 or RC2? Standard or touring screen? Lastly, did the clip-on MRA extra screen work well to reduce noise and wind to the chest and neck as you had hoped?

I had been riding with the MRA Vario and the 'regular' length (20cm) arms bracket kit since that is what I had leftover from a previous bike. Works very well, but at it's most forward position (shield more than 45 degrees upright) the ends of the arms are flush with the brackets, which was fine for me. 23cm would give you more adjustability without having to hacksaw the 26cm version. I love the screen, but even with the 'wing' at its highest/most upright angle, I still get hit in the eyes/forehead at +65mph. It does give great body and shoulders protection. To get the extra 2-3 inches needed to move the buffeting above my helmet I recently ordered and installed the 2 piece sliding 'height adjustable only' MRA VarioScreen model (VNB) seen here:

Will start a new thread solely about the VarioScreen (VNB) as I don't see one in the archives.

I am 6ft 2101bs and have had this MRA shield for about 4 months and like it for shorter (50-100 mi) rides . Plan on getting National DX for my longer rides because want more deflection on my shoulders.

I've owned several MRA screen, as well as a couple of other brands. I really like the mounting system and high quality screens. I tried both the long and short 7/8" mounting kits. I stayed with the long kit. My screen is tightened just enough to stay stable up to the speed limiter. But it still allows me to tilt the screen back and forth to manage airflow at different speeds.
