If I go grey tank I'll paint the side panels to match, otherwise I'll probably leave them black.

Why do you want a 17 tank just out of curiosity? Shape, capacity? get rid of the seams? all of the above?
The metallic gray is cool, but the striped black is what I’d get.

Shape mostly, including the modern fill cap. I don't mind the seems on the old tank, but the 2017 does have better lines. Capacity isn't really a factor for me.
Or, maybe, possibly, it could be that it's winter and I've haven't been on my bike in 6 months so I feel like I need to be doing something with it, but that's really neither here nor there.
Another vote for leave it as is...
No point spending all that money for a shiny tank on a rat-rod.
No offense meant with rat rod, it is a style- and with that in mind, your bike is already pulling off the mad max vibe- no need to change.
If anything- both of those tanks would take away from the style unless you were going to matte black them- and if capacity isn't an issue- why bother?

I voted for the grey. The GT stripe on the RS does nothing for me.
I too like it as is! I don't think either new tank would be an improvement.
