I noticed that airbox side covers on 2019 models is aluminium, where 2017 model has plastic airbox side covers. See pictures.
Out for curiosity:
- Does 2019 models have plastic side covers? (not airbox, another one with fuses)
- Can an aluminium airbox side covers be installed to 2017 models? To make fully aluminium version.
I would love to replace my plastics for aluminum.
mrded, you may well not get an answer to this question as the majority of members are in the US which has never seen the RS. You could try emailing Mr Takashi at Samurider.com. He may well know the answer and also be able to get the parts for you.
I also would like to replace the plastic covers on my rs, they cheapen it where everything else looks classy.
All 4 aluminum covers would look bad*ss indeed, too bad the'd run $500+
Yes, but would they fit?
Can someone help? I reckon they might well fit, but I can’t be certain.
Can someone with a new CB1100 > 2019 take pictures of side panels and bolts inside?
I want to check if it fits older models. Thanks.
The 2019 triangular side covers are aluminum, same as 2017.
The 2019 aluminum airbox covers bolt to an interim plastic piece that attaches to the airbox in the same way - 2 tabs at the lower edge and a push-pin clip at the top. Actual airboxes are the same for all years, so should fit all years.
17241-MGC-JQ0 and 17242-MGC-JQ0 for R & L aluminum covers respectively.
17245-MGC-JQ0 and 17245-MGC-JQ0 for the interim plastic pieces, R & L.
Plus you'll need 4 screws 90118-MKJ-D00 and 4 nuts 90016-ZA5-000.
They'll run you just shy of 400 GBP for the set, about $517 US....... I suddenly like the originals much better.

Yikes!
Man, I remember ordering colour matched Yamaha side covers direct from Japan for about $40 US each, including shipping.
