The wave key spare for my NC 750 was stupid expensive for the blank and the cutting, but it's one of those big headed jobs that you can't carry in your wallet.

Heck, this is going back to 2019 when I bought the bike and just wanted a spare to keep my original keys safe... couldn't have been more than ten bucks.

That's just a simple, straight-cut key for my 2013 CB. For one of the fancier ones, like a newer bike, I'm sure it would be a lot more. I had the metal "emergency" portion of a spare key cut for my car, and it was a lot more since it was a laser-cut key.

If you have an original or duplicated key, and you have the blank, any key shop/locksmith can make a duplicate for cheap, under $10.

If you don't have any keys, and only have the key code that was on a tag on the key ring from the dealer, this company can cut it from the code number.

The greater cost is to help amortize the key machine, basically a CNC milling machine and continuously updating the software, which runs into the 5-digit price range.

My uncle has a Ducati Minster Evo or w.e the 1200 version was called... sitting in a garage on a trickle charger with 48 original miles on it that he inherited from his brother and I want it so bad lmfao

This is the ebay seller I used to make a key by code on tag with a key that came with my CB. About $15 tax and shipping included. Will advise if it works. Now if I could only find a blank that fits my Hepco Becker top cases that doesn't have the infernal plastic covered head....

For many years, there has been no publicly available source for Honda (and most Japanese manufacturers) key codes. The simple, hand-held key cutting machines have been replaced with electronic cutting machines that are way too expensive for motorcycle dealers to buy.
Around 10 years ago, there were only 3 or 4 Honda dealers who had bought the machines. So the key manufacturers/sellers stopped providing any conversions between the manufacturer's code and the machine.

Do you know how we would go about ordering a key by code of theres no code on the factory keys?

Like how would they know to cut it for our specific ignition

If you have an original or duplicated key, and you have the blank, any key shop/locksmith can make a duplicate for cheap, under $10.

If you don't have any keys, and only have the key code that was on a tag on the key ring from the dealer, this company can cut it from the code number.

The greater cost is to help amortize the key machine, basically a CNC milling machine and continuously updating the software, which runs into the 5-digit price range.

This is the ebay seller I used to make a key by code on tag with a key that came with my CB. About $15 tax and shipping included. Will advise if it works. Now if I could only find a blank that fits my Hepco Becker top cases that doesn't have the infernal plastic covered head....

Hey so I just looked and luckily I still have the key tag from when my neighbor bought the bike new on my other key.

Its a 4 digit code next to "serial" on the tag.

Is that the keytag code you gave the guy on ebay?

I have two cut, one red for my DLX and the other for my std, and I always hwve both spare when riding any of my bikes.
All numbers are visible:

I have always kept the spare ignition keys locked away and have never used them.

When I sell the vehicle, they always get a brand new key (never used), and a very worn down key.
