Hope I am using the correct area in the forum. I just bought a standard 2014 cb1100, no ABS.
It only had 1500 original miles. The front brake works really well, but the rear brake seems pretty anemic. I stomp down on it and it doesn't seem to work that well. Is this a normal thing for the cb1100?
As I stated above, I am new to the forum, so is the rear brake on the cb110's kind of weak or is it just me?
Thanks
To me all the new rear brakes are anemic. I complained about the rear brake on my 13 when I bought it new. A Honda factory service rep looked at it and declared it normal.
My 14 hasn't been any better, nor my 2018 FJR 1300 nor my new 2021 NC 750X. Guess that's just how they are these days.
Since the rear brakes are responsible for less than 10 or 20% of stopping power, that might explain why for many decades many motorcycle manufacturers still used a rear drum brake. Certainly too much brake power can result in rear wheel lock-up. The ol' '76 Yamaha RD400 had a beefy rear disk and it was pretty strong for a light bike and was easy to lock-up. Today's rear disks, by comparison, appear more anemic - kinda like a drum brake.
i switch ou fort sintered pads on the back of my 14 seemed to help a little seams like all the bikes ive ridden the back brakes aren't that great except dirtbikes
My 2013 only has 5000 miles on it, but I can lock up the rear brake easily if I step on it. It is nowhere near as effective as the front, however. If the bike sat a lot before you got it, you are probably wise to flush out the brake and clutch fluids. Also, keep in mind, I don't have ABS, so my results may be a lot different than yours. Sounds like you got a great deal. Have fun!
definitely flush and bleed at the age of our bike mine were full of crude and needed cleaned
Brake pads need seating in (pad material needs to be embedded into the disc) so if the old owner rarely if ever used the rear brake it may just need seating in.
It's a long shot, but tossing it out there.

the rear brake is used to slow down and / or facilitate turns.

To start with your question about ... “all like this ?”
Absolutely not. Rear is not as strong as in front, but I can easily slow her down from 50 mph to a stop, just using the rear. No need to step on it hard, no sluggishness, no delays.
If my front brake lever broke on a trip, I would still feel safe and ride home with just the rear.
I hope this helps ... get it fixed, or fix it. You want this brake to work.
PS: mine is ABS, but as long as it isn’t triggered, that can not make any difference.
My rear brake is close to non-existent and always has been. Approx 4,000 miles.
