Wondering if anyone has any comments/experience/knowledge about installing a 6-speed transmission on a 2013? Is it possible? Are major modifications necessary?
The crankshaft case has different part numbers. So $2600 for a new one, if it will fit, plus all the transmission parts to go in it. Plus either you are an awesome mechanic or—more big $$.

Seems a LOT cheaper to buy a 6 speed with that you know works.

No one on this board has reported even thinking about this job.
There are several used '14 engines on Ebay.

Note that the '14 ECU was different than the '13- as was the dash cluster.

Modern electronics can get funny sometimes with things like a extra gear the '13 stuff isn't expecting to be there.
When I bought my '13 CB I already had a the Suzi DL1000, which has a six speed, which I really liked. I considered looking for a tranny or even a totaled bike that had a viable engine/trans combo and swapping it out, but after thinking it over decided it's just not worth the time expense trouble. I may keep an eye out for a '14 locally and see if I can work a trade-in.
I'm not local but.......I'd be willing to sell my '14 Deluxe, Ohlin's rear shocks, smallish National Cycle windshield, after market rack (sorry I forget the brand). Love the bike but it has gotten a little crowded in the garage and something may have to go. No real mods though i have a power commander in a box that came with it. Got a couple extras in a box too. PM me if interested in details.
I hope this does violate forum rules. TM
Surely I'm not the only one who prefers 5 speed.
I think with 6 speed your changing gear way to much for very little gain if any.
I have a 6 speed and like it more than I did my 5 speed. I enjoy riding at lower rpms, and cruise around in 6th at 2500-3500 rpms without a lot of shifting at all. Once I get to 6th it's like an automatic unless I come to a stop sign or light. It's not a big deal either way though. I think there's about a 400 rpm difference between the 5 speed in top gear and the 6 speed in top gear.

Compared to riding my DCT bike, all manual trans require a lot of shifting lol
Had a "13/5 speed CB and replaced with a '14/6 speed = no regrets.

Mine is 6 speed, and I tend to agree for most riding. BUT on longer distances the lower rpms and higher gas mileage matter ... if you do such trips. Just wouldn’t bother trading a 5sp for a 6sp for that reason.
I would however trade any pre17 for one of the rare EX. Simply the more fine-tuned model.

Only true improvement in my mind is the front forks, while the gas tank looks goofy. And has a slipper clutch if you care about such things... I own a bike with one and haven't noticed a benefit.
