Hello everyone, I believe this is my first post. I have been lurking this site since I bought my 2014 Standard last summer and have learned a lot from you gents. I'm really loving this bike, but I have a different problem with my stock seat. I'm about 5'10" and 180 lbs, so very average. When I sit on my bike, the stock seat and position of the pegs forces my pelvis to the rear. The seat is wide and forces my hips apart. I have pain sometimes immediately in the top outside of my hips, right in the joint. A friend/fellow biker jumped on my bike and experienced this immediately, so it's not just me. The pain is intense, somewhat like a muscle cramp and does not go away until I can stand up and stretch it out. If I scoot back on my seat, it's not as bad, but then I'm sitting on top of the transition area of the seat between the operator and the passenger, which isn't comfortable either. I bought the bike with lowered pegs, so that's been addressed. I've looked at aftermarket seats and think I want a "bread loaf" retro-style seat like the samurider Whitehouse K10, or the Daytona Cozy which would allow me to scoot back without hitting the edge of the "bucket". I'm hoping this style of seat will be taller and narrower at the top and not force my hips apart so much. This is really my only complaint about this bike and fixing this problem will allow me to really enjoy riding it more without being so cautious about seating position, because once the pain hits, it does not go away until I stretch it out. Any advice would be appreciated. I've seen some "bread loaf" seats on some of the bikes in pictures on this site (especially like the one BeardyWeirdy@me.com has on his), so I know others have them.....do they work? I really don't care about how soft or plush they are as I don't suffer from a sensitive posterior.
This is something I don't think has ever been brought up here before.
There have been times when I've experienced a "hip cramp" something like what you have described, but that sometimes happens on any of my bikes.
I chalk it up to physical conditioning if I haven't ridden a lot lately and it soon goes away. I've never had to get off the bike and stretch or call it a day.
G'day and welcome, Philip. That's most unfortunate. I've not had your experience, although my knees once took a pounding when the way I had gear stacked on the bike pushed me right forward in the seat.
This may be a silly question, but have you consulted a physiotherapist to see whether there is some exercise you can do to stretch out whatever is painful?

I swear I've had that happen as well.
for me its when I play sports (soccer) or cycle and then ride my motorcycle. If my legs are not stretched out properly I cramp up...hips or ham strings- and then I get these spasms when my legs are stationary in a static position.
Once I had a muscle spasm and the pain was so intense and sudden I actually had to stop and get off the bike right away and stretch.
Its an age thing for me...(I just refuse to accept that Im as old as I am...but my body doesn't let me forget).
the takeaway...ride motorcycle before sports ...LOL
Welcome to the forum, Philip.
I too have experienced similar discomfort as that which you describe. And like you, I relieve it by simply standing and stretching. I think part of it results from the seating, leg and peg positions. Over the 600+ miles I've now ridden on my CB1100 the frequency of this has diminished greatly (for me).
Let us know, after you change seats, as to improvement or not.
Good luck.
I experience those same symptoms every once in a while 20 min or so after I start a ride. It happens on all bikes of the past and also now, high or low, narrow or large seat.
It goes away when I stand up on the pegs for a moment. I don't think there is something wrong with my hips, I think it is just because of not being used to that position.

I'm not going to say definitely that it's not my physical condition (I admit I'm getting old at 56), but I really believe it's the position. I can jump on my Suzuki DR650, which has a very hard, flat seat, and ride all day without any pain whatsoever. When I ride the CB, it's like someone is shoving a knife in the top of my hips. I have to fix this before riding season!
As soon as funds permit, I will get the Corbin...
This thread is worthless without pictures. Any chance you could have your friend take some pics of you in your normal riding position? That would help people make some better suggestions, I believe.
Oh yeah, Welcome!!
Your size and weight is identical to my size and weight. A while back I posted similar issues.Your pain is the same as mine.Bad catch in the top of my hips. People came back and said that something was wrong with my bike. I love the bike but it is a pain. If I could get this issue resolved I would be one happy camper. I look forward to some resolution. I also own a Road King Custom and can ride a full tank of gas with no problems 200 miles. Hope some one has a cure.
