In attempting to post some personal rider observations about my new 2014 CB1100 to the Moto Guzzi forum, I'm afraid I may be giving them some bad info. It almost seems impossible that this 4 cylinder engine can produce good power at lower rpms. I'm reading 2750rpm at 60mph in 6th gear, and the bike accelerates nicely if I'm not in a big hurry from that speed. Doesn't seem like I've ever owned a bike that would pull so nicely without lugging at this rpm. Here's a few of my observations I posted to WG forum.
Can one of you 2014 6 speed owners confirm or correct my observations? Thanks, Bob

- I find it isn't necessary to wring the bike's neck to achieve really nice straight line performance. Since I'm still breaking it in, I'm keeping rpm normally below 4000. I find this engine is tuned to pull nicely in any lower gear from 2000 to 2500, and shifting at 3000 to 3500 and rolling on in the next taller gear shows the bike to have good low end torque, and more than adequate acceleration.

- RPM at indicated 60mph is an indicated 2750rpm (6th gear.) And the bike is not lugging at that rpm. A slight twist of the throttle and she's off. No drama mama.

Ive found a lot of Eurobikes don't like to run below 4000 rpms. THe Honda will run all day in any gear at 2500 rpms, or less. AS observed 4000 rpms on this bike will have you rocketing along in the lower gears and speeding in Utah in 6 th.

My normal shift point to the next higher gear is 3200 rpms

The versatility of this engine is what we love about it.

Yep the CB pulls like a tractor. Probably one of the biggest reasons I love it.

I don't believe I've ever had a need to rev mine beyond 4000 rpm.

I've been a member of a Moto Guzzi forum for over 8 years, and the members been invaluable to my enjoyment of a couple of these Italian machines (1200 Sport and Griso 8vSE.)

But your comment about my posting CB info on the Guzzi site got a chuckle out of me, for sure!

Actually, the reason I posted my thoughts about my new ride there was that a handful of forum members already own a CB1100, and others had expressed an interest in my initial opinions about my Honda.

Most, like me, were surprised to learn about the low rpm torque characteristic of the bike.

Being on both forums I'd have to say CB riders may have more in common with the Guzzi crowd than possibly any other genre of riders . We both like air cooled motors. We both seem to gravitate towards a standard bike with classic (vintage) styling. We are prob ALL in the same aging demographic(s). Many (not all) of both crowds seem to like an upright ( some what neutral) riding position and if we depart from that it's towards the sporting side( rearsets etc.) A preponderance of us on both sides of the fence seem to be less than enthusiastic about heavy cruisers ( my non scientific mostly second hand opinion based on a couple of years on each forum...). All that aside, as a Guzzi owner I found Django's quip dang funny. Ausgezeichnet Django!
