The plastic headlight shell, or bucket, on my bike has developed stress cracks at the mounting bosses (where it mounts to the mounting brackets or ears as some call them.
They were hard to see. I found them by chance when looking around with a flashlight. The right side has 2 and the left side has 1. They are an inch or so long.
They originate at the bolt hole. And yes the metal inserts are installed. I have a Road Comet installed so maybe that had something to do with it.
I did epoxy them on the inside.
Can you guys take a look and see if anyone else has them?
There's none on mine that I can see with a flashlight Mi Lord, but I have a painted aftermarket bucket on mine (11 years old, 78,000 mi)
No cracks on mine. Thanks for the heads-up!
No cracks on mine.
You might consider synchronizing your RLETS to alleviate high frequency vibrations that is being transmitted to your fork ears.
Hummm, might have to do the RLET sync
Actually I have been hearing a vibration at 2k or so RPM since I installed the Road Comet for the Summer and couldn’t figure it out. Holding onto the RC would make it stop. Investigation lead to finding the shell cracks.
I haven’t ridden it this week due to weather. So, this evening I inspected the headlight sub frame (or whatever it is called) and noticed the RC was against he headlight in one spot. After adjusting the headlight down some and remounting the RC—no contact. I’m hoping that stops the buzz.
Thanks guys for checking yours. That helped. Now I have to have a talk with the RLETs…
I’ll let you know how it goes after I can ride again.
Check if any RLET is cracked.. if it is, you have an imbalance issue!
RLETs checked and are good. I have to say PB, the Ring wasn’t any help. Could have warned me…
After some more inspection, The bottom of the headlight trim ring was contacting the Road Comet. Was hard to tell. I moved the headlight down a tad and closely checked all clearances and all was good. Test ride was next and all buzzing was gone.
Hopefully the light is adjusted OK. I never ride at night so I’ll worry about that later.
Yesterday the turn signal switch started sticking some so today I’ll address that.
MiLord, you are very lucky to be the owner of the Ring, every other member has to diagnose everything step by step and himself ...

So, apparently, does Lord Popgun now. I knew always something sus there was about that ring.

Actually ya know, it has a mind of its own. And it likes to laugh at dumb user induced faults.
