Interesting. I'd never heard of Biltwell, so I went to their website. Those Gringo full face helmets look exactly like the late 70s Bell Star helmets. I used to wear one that was color matched to my old KZ400.

I had Bell Star helmets in the 70s. I loved those things.

I used to ride with foam earplugs when I had my HJC. After replacing it the the RF1000, it was much quieter, but I'd still wear earplugs for long rides out west of San Antonio on the ol' 919.


The buffeting within the top ports are quite distracting on the NeoTec and the chin vent seems to nearly double the noise when open. Maybe I need to go back to riding with earplugs again... or buy a Goldwing. Hmmm... wonder which option the wife will approve?

That's supposed to be one of their best modular, I was even thinking about getting the MulitTec...that would probably be even louder. Do you have a fairing on your CB1100?

Do you like the MultiTec? I was thinking about getting the Pearl Gray along with the RJ open face. I like it very much. There is no whistling or rattling around the shield and the interior is very plush. The only negative I can think of is the upper vent holes don't seem to draw in much air until you tilt your head forward. The vents DO work because the only time my head felt hot was in 100 degree heat. If you tilt forward there is a noticeable difference.

Man, that is waaay cool. The bubble shield really does it for the retro look. Now I'm gonna have to explain to the wife why I need two helmets for one bike... Women.

While it doesn't show in the stock photos, it's fully convertible. Unlike most convertibles, the chin bar flips completely back over the helmet and sits flush with the little curvy line on back. It's completely out of the airstream. I don't really ride with it back, though; it's very quick, so I just flip it up when I'm sitting at a long stoplight in the heat, then back down when the light changes. It literally takes three seconds to pull it down and lock it in place. There's also a built-in retractable sun visor, which I really like. No need to wear sunglasses, and it provides eye protection when you're riding shield-up at city speeds.

I recommend, but it ain't cheap. Cost me $450 at the Honda shop; you can probably find it cheaper online.

I am absolutely with you. Full face all the time. I have actually grown very comfortable in my HJC IS MAX BT, and would feel naked without it now. Getting an exact match for Meowgirl before her first ride.

I was wearing that exact Shoei 3/4 helmet and I just bought and started wearing a Shoei X-Twelve full face helmet. On my H-D Road King the 3/4 helmet with a face shield worked fine because the windshield directed most of the airflow up and over my head and protected my chin and neck from flying debris. On the CB with no wind protection I took two hits from stones thrown up by a car ahead of me and decided to switch. The X-Twelve is pricey at about $650 but it's an amazing helmet with great airflow which is really important here in AZ. Cheers.

I've always used modular helmets. I have several. My issue is I feel I need to be able to flip up the front of the helmet. I guess there isn't a lot of difference between lifting the chin and shield or just the shield but the full face seems to make me feel slightly claustrophobic. From a safety stand point I don't know how much better the full face might be but I see the modular as the minimum.

I see very few people riding with coverage. Half don't use helmets and almost zero have all skin covered.

Admittedly it's difficult in hot weather but at the least gloves and long sleeves and jeans.










I still have my graphic heavy full face helmet from Ninja days...but it seems like with this CB1100 it would be more natural to wear an open face helmet with glasses or possibly a shield...what are others doing?

I have a half helmet now but I am getting a modular helmet. More than likely today.

I did get one from revzilla, an AFX AF-140 and got it just a tad bigger and it fits loose when the chin is up and feels comfortable, but when I put the chin down my chin hits it and is not comfortable on the chin. So that is going back...

I am looking at a Bell Revolver Evo. Getting 15% off on one so why not try it out...



HI VIZ! Need to be seen as this bike as it is stock is too quiet... imho, not that I am not liking it compared to my growly XS850!
