Got a set of Renthal ultra-low bars (7/8): seeking a moderate cafe look.
I had some concern that they would be too low. i.e. turn signal pod would hit gas tank.
Put bars on today:
Appears they will fit and everything will clear gas tank.
But I had the following problems:
-both the turn signal and starter pods have a pin that fits into a hole in the stock bars, so i will need to drill holes in the Renthals.
-Honda bar-ends do not fit, so I will have to get Renthal bar-ends.
So I put stock bars back on.
I reversed the stock bar mounts, which moves the bars forward about an inch. Felt much better as I am 6'2", now leaning slightly forward.
Looks OK, but if you look closely, you can see the rubber pad between mount and top tree is backwards.
Lessons learned: When disassembling handle bars: There are 2 wires going from brake and clutch cylinder to electrical pods. Disconnect these wires before you remove brake/clutch cylinders. Male tabs bend very easily.

I put a set of lower bars on my bike today.
I did drill the holes for the switches and had to use some aftermarket bar ends.

I wanted it to look stock with the chrome bars but be a bit lower, I used BikeMaster Daytona bend. ($25)

They seem like they would be quite a bit lower but after it was all done it wasn't that big of a change.
Feels real nice and still very comfy.

I did have a little trouble snugging everything up, the diameter of the aftermarket bars must be slightly smaller. I'm glad I didn't dremel off the pins.

I think I'll get some heavy stainless bar end weights to make up for the loss of damping provided by the stock bar ends.

BikeMaster also makes a superbike bend that is a bit lower and a Euro bend that's about the same height but drops at the grips.

The Daytona is not a radical change and it clears the tank without any issues.
I'll ride a it a few days and see how it feels.

Please post a picture of the lower bars if you get the chance. I've been wanting to do this too. Any problem with routing the throttle cables or hydraulic lines? Hearing about the pins and bar end weight conflicts is good info.

They are not too low at all and don't put any weight on your hands /wrists just more comfortable (IMO)
But I ride bikes with lower bars and don't like tall bars at all.

The brake line doesn't flow the right direction and has an added bend but it's not sharp enough to be a problem.

Who did you buy the bars from - Do you have a part # ?

I bought the bars from a local shop here are the links to the manufacturer and an online retailer

I'm considering buying the stock bars from a CB1000R... I'm thinking they should be about the same rise as those daytona bars, and the gold might look kind of cool. I also like the idea of them coming pre drilled for Honda, and I'm assuming they should fit the stock bar ends.

Lookin' good, man! Those bars remind me of the CB400F handlebars, but I'm thinking yours are a bit wider.

haha, nope that's a little side road off the driveway that leads down to the lower section of the house - where the bikes live
