Honda website says the 2014 CB1100 is equipped with an aluminum swingarm.

Questions:

1) Can anyone confirm that 2013 models have aluminum swingarms?

2) Samurider carries aluminum swingarms mfg. by OVER Racing...it advertises a 50% weight savings from stock. How can this be if both are aluminum? Is the Over Racing hollow and the stock a solid block of aluminum?

3) How many pounds of weight savings is 50% of the stock arm and how significant is that weight, given that its "sprung" weight (is that the correct term).

I am new to motorcycling...simply interested in the variables surrounding this component and not likely to swap into this aftermarket item. Any educated commentary greatly appreciated.
Hmm thought I had seen your name registered before?

Anyhow, a magnet sticks to my 14 dlx swingarm, so it is steel
OE's are heavy heavy steel. The Over arm are very light and improved my ride and handling a great deal. 10.6lbs vs 23.8lbs Over's are hollow.

I've knocked over 50lbs from my bike. It's a real improvement

Copy paste from Honda website: "Aluminum Swingarm - Combined with the CB1100’s steel-tube full-cradle twin-loop frame, the stout aluminum swingarm is part of the CB1100’s excellent handling package."

Have I misapplied the term "swingarm"...is Honda referring to the passenger footpeg mount, or the frame that holds the rear axle?
It is interesting that on the Honda powersports site it does say that the '14 has an aluminum swingarm. If you switch to the '13 is says steel swingarm.

So, do you 2014 guys have an aluminum swingarm?

Sorry Mickey,

For some reason I though Acq wrote that.

Xpac--That was a good question, but keep in mind that marketing people run those sites and they don't always get things right for a number of reasons. Thats what I like about forums like this. Hive knowledge and all right here!
Hive knowledge .. I like that term
