In the dawn of this Saturday I will start my yearly expedition, this time to explore Transylvania and finally meet with some iron butts at the IBA Germany R2E event in Konstanza at the Black Sea:

Well, thinking about, how to do a ride report, let me create a Blog at wordpress.com, to collect my thoughts, pictures and adventures: Django Tours

Feel invited to follow me for about 5,500 km in 9 days.

Looks good so far Django, I'll be following along. Have fun, ride safe!

ps loved this line, my philosophy exactly

"Hm, I should give here a wash, however, I’m afraid, there is no time and it will rain again anyway."

Me too. Ride well, Django.

I'd also like to add my support for the sentiment in this marvellous statement "... I should give here a wash, however, I’m afraid, there is no time and it will rain again anyway."

Why wash when you can ride?

No wash = rain minimal or none at all
Fresh wash = rain guaranteed

This has been my experience on road trips. It always feels better on a clean bike, until that rain comes...

Looking forward to your updates. Safe travels!

Good night that Transfăgărășan road looks like fun!

You must have been dizzy after all those curves!

Very cool stuff Django, very cool!

"Fortified church" is a new concept for me...the age is hard to comprehend...harder still to realize that they are more or less preserved and still intact.

Here is some more information about the Transylvanian Saxon and how the fortification started: Transylvanian Saxons - Wikipedia

However, visiting these fortified churches and those abandoned Saxon villages made me kind of sad. They are witness of a gone epoch, though meanwhile some Germans are going back to Transylvania and many German companies invest around Hermannstadt area.

From wikipedia:
Quote:The Transylvanian Saxon population has decreased since World War II. Transylvanian Saxons started leaving Transylvania during and after World War II, settling first in Austria, then especially in Germany. The process of emigration continued during Communist rule in Romania, and even into the collapse of the Ceaușescu regime in 1989 when approximately half a million fled to Germany.

That is fascinating and tragic history. Thanks for sharing this...I learned something I knew nothing about before.

“Hm, I regret a little, not to have stopped there to take a picture.“

Don’t regret it, Django. Sometimes the ride is way more important than the pictures.

Excellent report Django! I have been following your tour with interest in European history and your ride experience. Thank you.

The depth and richness and time span of the region's history is astounding. The trip looks so moody and retrospective...fascinating storytelling Django. We really appreciate the culture and history of your epic ride.
