I am blessed to live in a beautiful riding area. Oceans, cliffs, beaches, valleys, mountains, canyons, quaint towns, and imposing cities are accessible. Summers and winters are mild. Spring and fall are breathtaking. The roads are mostly good, although traffic, earthquakes, floods, wildfires, and construction can sometimes make my weekend rides difficult.

But the time I spend on and about my CB1100EX is always cathartic.

I am an old-school, DSLR photographer who enjoys planning a shot. I love to manually manipulate aperture, shutter speed, ISO, lighting, lens selection, and more to arrive at the perfect calculus to capture a moment. I rarely get it perfect, but there are moments where there is more good than bad. As we say in the Southern United States, even a blind hog can find an acorn every now and then.

But talent and technique are not my biggest challenges. I cannot take pictures or videos while riding a motorcycle with a DSLR camera or a smartphone. Although I frequent roads less traveled whenever possible, I still struggle to find a safe spot to park a motorcycle, take a picture or video, and return to the ride.

To address that quandary, I recently purchased an Insta360 X5 8K Action Camera, outfitted for motorcycles like ours. I had read about 360 cameras, which use two opposing lenses to create a Dr. Seuss-style, three-dimensional photograph or video. However, the draw for me was the potential to set up a high-resolution camera to record while I rode. I was enamored with the idea of sharing a perspective with you that you might find equally engaging as I ride through Northern California.

The Insta360 X5 is a powerful technical platform. It has many of the camera settings of traditional devices, along with some artificial intelligence to help smooth things out.

I have much to learn about the Insta360 X5. So far, this much I know:

The device is highly configurable and offers an extensive range of features.
The default settings will not yield the image quality I want.

Many YouTube experts have a firm grasp of the features but are not very knowledgeable about how to apply them to create a great video or photograph.

If I am willing to make mistakes and iterate, I am confident I can use the Insta360 X5 in those situations where a traditional device is not possible.

Here are the videos and photos I took when I set up my first configuration and went for the inaugural ride. I welcome your feedback. If I spark an interest, I will gladly share more details. Enjoy the weekend. For the Faithful, Happy Easter. David
Seems as if these pictures popped up on Facebook and ADVrider around 10 years ago. After that every once and awhile someone like me asks where to buy them, to the accompaniment of crickets.

All I can figure is maybe they were made for a different bike and someone customized mounts for the CB? Nevertheless, aesthetically they look like they were lovingly made for our CBs and nothing else.
If anyone has info regarding these most beautiful CB1100 cases... --please and thanks!

I am struggling to find out what side racks are currently available for my 2014 Honda CB1100 Deluxe. I am finding racks for other years and models, but none that specifically say they will fit a 2014 Honda CB1100 Deluxe.

It seems like some racks that used to be made are now discontinued, such as SW Motech #KFT.01.331.20000/B

I know I may not have the luxury of being picky, but would appreciate it if anyone can tell me what options that I have for hard cases and soft bags for my bike.

On a related note: can anyone tell me if the 2014 Deluxes are unique to themselves as far as rack mount dimensions? Or does the 2014 Standard, or 2013, or the RS, or Euro 2015, or etc. have the same dimensions as the 2014 Deluxe?

I really appreciate the help! So far, I've found sourcing 2014 Deluxe side racks most confusing!

She managed fine and loved the feel of the CB, but said that was about her limit. Reported that the seat is comfortable and roomy enough, but that her legs were a bit scrunched up, causing achy knees and hips after about a half-hour in the saddle. Interestingly, she said that despite the cramped knees, the smoothness of the CB's ride was threatening to lull her to sleep.

I'm riding a 2017.
I'm 5'11" with a 30" inseam. 190lbs.

National Cycle Street Shield: this is a medium-sized, clear universal mount windscreen that the previous owner had installed. 17" tall and 16" wide.
The good!

The four-point universal mount is surprisingly stable.

Takes a good amount of wind-blast off your chest. You really feel it above 65mph or so.

Looks clean with a retro cruiser style that doesn't clash with the CB.

Pops on and off with relative ease, making it available when you need it and gone when you don't.

The bad!

The air crests right up at head level and ups the noise factor, considerably, necessitating ear-plugs at speeds over 55mph. If I could just cant it down slightly so the wind crested a few inches lower, I think it would be perfect.

It effects the handling slightly. Just adds a bit of buffeting and shake to the front end. Not substantial, but enough to feel slightly less smooth confidence than the CB normally delivers.

Dart Marlin s3 flyscreen: I had previously had this installed on my RE INT650 where I absolutely loved it. Big enough to work but small enough to keep a clean look. Crested the wind perfectly off my chest but let my head ride in clean air for no head-buffeting or increased noise. Had to call Dart and get them to dig a lost unit of their discontinued 2017 mount out of a back office somewhere. 12.5" tall and 11" wide.
The good!

Takes a moderate amount of wind-blast off your chest. You really feel it above 75mph or so.

Looks clean with a more modern style that elevates the CB without clashing with the retro style. Works particularly well, esthetically, with the more modern 2017 tank.

Low-profile, unobtrusive mounting hardware.

Doesn't effect handling noticeably.

The bad!

Replaces the solid, stock headlamp assembly mount with thinner custom mounts that accommodate the windscreen. Due to being flat, stamped out aluminum, any buffeting to the windscreen causes the headlamp and front blinkers to wobble slightly while riding. Doesn't effect anything mechanical, but slightly disconcerting. Wobble flattens out above 55mph.

Due to the CB being a longer bike than the RE, with a longer headlight assembly and longer screen mounting hardware, the dynamics are different than the ER and the turbulent air hits you at head level and ups the noise factor, considerably, necessitating ear-plugs at speeds over 55mph. If I scoot up basically onto the tank, I can get the same distance from the screen as on the RE and up above that lip of air, but it is not a position want to actually ride in.

I'm thinking that for now I'll stick with the Street Shield and just only use it for longer rides. I think maybe the move is to go bigger, but also stick with a detachable unit. That way I can have a clean ride with no windscreen while I'm in town, but then snap a touring screen on if I'm going to ride up to NorCal or something for the weekend. Anyone have any recommendations? Any experience with the Street Shield EX? Or big ass Plexifairings? I would love to hear ya'll's experience and suggestions.
