Greetings, CB1100 friends. Hello from Glendale, CA!

I ride a 2017 CB1100EX, I'm the second owner, and I've had it since 2022. The first owner made a few mods to give it more of a Cafe Racer - a front cowl, drag style handlebars, aftermarket turn indicators, and mirrors. I've lovingly restored the bike back to stock because I think Honda really nailed it.

Happy to be here on the Forums.

Hi everyone!

I've been quietly stalking this forum for some time now, and thought now is finally the time to say hi.
In fact, the amazing collection of information (and people) here were part of the reason why I've bought a CB 1100 (2013) in the first place (I was considering a Bonneville or Interceptor — heresy!).

I always enjoyed fixing my bikes (the ones without motorised support), but I've never owned nor worked on anything with a motor. This forum allowed me to start wrenching on my CB as well, and it's wonderful. With the help of all of you I've managed to:
- do basic maintenance (chain, oil, brake/clutch fluids including flushing the C-ABS, cleaning the air filter)
- change brake pads and subsequently fixed a self-inflicted brake drag issue (Terrence O'Keeffe helped with that!)
- change all lights to LED while maintaining the beautiful stock sockets
- repair a broken mirror (that wasn't me)
- change a broken clutch lever (that was very much me, the bike wanted to take a nap in a parking garage...)
- chose saddlebags and a tailbag that match the CB
- fix a stuck turn signal
- install a new battery
- coat it a few times in ACF-50 (Dutch winters are gnarly)
- and of course: unlock an extra 5kW, 12Nm, and endless style points with the greatest farkle of them all...

I've put about 7'000 km on it since I got it in January, and absolutely love it still. Also, I called it "Hondalf the White".

Thank you for being part of that!

Cheers!

I didn't really care for the CB1100 when it first came out. At the time it wasn't retro enough for me. I guess it's the old geezer in me. I prefer older bikes. I think they have more character. My first bike was a used 68 Honda CB350 I bought from a friend in 1971 for $225. I put 11,000 miles on it the first summer. I got tired of oil leaks and valve adjustments, so I traded it for a 72 Suzuki GT550 two stroke. I wanted something bigger, so I bought a used 73 CB750. I probably would have kept it except the local Honda dealer offered me crazy money on a trade for a new 1980 CB900 custom. Along with a bunch of other "old" bikes, I still have the CB900.

Eventually I took a shine to the CB1100. I wish it had been sooner because I would have bought a new one. I started looking around and there were a few low mileage 2013s and 14s nearby but I settled on the 2017 CB1100EX. I liked the spoke wheels and two mufflers. I found this one 350 miles away in North Carolina. It was a trade in at Honda dealership. The original owner was a longtime customer and had all the maintenance done there so 20,000 miles shouldn't be a problem. We struck a deal at a reasonable price, and they changed the oil and replaced the rear tire. I drove there from PA and brought it home in February. This winter was awful in Pennsylvania, so the old girl hibernated in a warm garage while I got her all cleaned up and adjusted. Last week I got my new plate and insurance and took her out on a shakedown ride and to get the state inspection done.

I now truly regret waiting so long to get one. It's smooth like an electric motor. It rides nicer than my big Harley. It has all the power I could ever want. I guess I just got too used to riding vintage stuff and didn't realize how far motorcycle technology has come. Don't get me wrong. I still like my old bikes, but this one is really nice too.

I had a 2014 CB1100 EX that I bought new and had it for a year or two and stupidly sold it! I then about five years ago picked up a very nice 72 Honda CB500 and a year or two later bought a 73 CB350 four. Both great bikes but are a bit finicky unless ridden on a regular basis. A friend of mine is selling me his 2014 Honda CB1100 with a Whitehouse kit. I would like to have a newer bike that I can put some miles on a I know these are reliable. So here I am back on this new forum as I think I was on the old forum before. I am in Indiana. Just wanted to introduce myself.

Hello!

It’s taken me 7 years to get here.

That’s when I first became love-at-first-sight aware of the CB1100.

But I could only admire--no funds to acquire.

I did at least have my “down-and-dirty dream girl,” my Honda XR650L dual sport to help console me, riding together up in the Pacific Northwest mountain forest dirt trails (and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that XR650L), but nevertheless SHE (CB1100 other woman) haunted my asphalt carving dreams.

Frequenting the XR650L thread on the ADVrider forum was no escape; SHE haunted me there, too. I’d be on the XR650L thread and suddenly a CB1100 notification would appear, and so again--twinge in my heart--I’d go over to the ADVrider CB1100 thread, mostly to lurk, or maybe to ask some question, or to confess my love along with the hope that, one day, maybe, maybe I also...

...rinse and repeat for the past seven years, until “one day” finally came a few weeks ago: suddenly I had the funds to get serious. And so began the search for my road-bike dream girl.

While I searched for HER nationwide, simultaneously I educated myself more deeply about the various years and models by starting at the 2012 beginning of the ADVrider CB1100 thread and reading through nearly 6000 posts to the present.

My search revealed a dozen CB1100s across the US, but the ones I wanted most were on average 2000 miles away, and so my research turned to fly-and-ride, vehicle escrow, bike-transport, and motorcycle consignment companies. I emailed, texted and called sellers and dealers across the US. A few times I got tantalizingly, frustratingly close. But then SHE’d slip away.

Until suddenly, only 100 miles away, there SHE was! My pristine, showroom quality 2014 CB1100 Deluxe with 11k miles.

And. She. Was. Perfect.

And SHE’s in my garage right now!

So now I have the road-bike dream girl of my asphalt carving dreams...

...and questions...

... and so here I am, helmet in hand, knocking hopefully at the CB1100 Forum door (perhaps the best piece of advice given to me again and again by the ADVrider crowd was “have you investigated the CB1100 forum.com and .net?”)

Thank you for having me!

[Note: “LucienLeFrank” is aka “XRLated” on ADVrider, where he’s been posting for a decade, nearly 3000 posts primarily in the ADVrider XR650L thread, about his ongoing love and adventure with his beloved XR650L.]

Cheers to my CB1100 friends--I think you all have excellent taste!
I have been working on several 1970s CB750s, but this is my first "modern" bike. It runs well, just those issues i mentions above.

Hello everyone,

In march 2018 I bought myself a brand new cb 1100 ex from a local dealer. It was a discount since it didn't sell very well. I believe I have a 2016 model. Whatever. I love the thing and I try to ride 6.000 km on it every year. It is my first bike. Got my license in 2018 and bought the bike because it was there and I allways wanted a universal Japanese motorcycle. Before, I used to ride 125 cc scooters like the S-wing.

It is a black one. Its first service after 1.000 kms was kind of funny. Way too expensive for my likings and the bill stated that the coolant was ok. I mentioned that beeing really beautiful since the bike is air cooled. It was then that I decided to do the maintenance myself. Got the service manual and currently it has 44.000 kms on it. It runs better and better. All hondas do. They don't age, they get better over time. Only thing to do is ride and maintain. They love fresh oil.

Did I change a lot? I got a fehling luggage rack. Made the wheels tubeless. That give me some choice in different tyres.I love Avon tyres. I changed the suspension. At the back it has YSS suspension and in the front it has andreani cartridges. Now I have some setting possibilities. And it feels like a flying carpet on rails. Why did I do this? Well, there was this jump I accidently made with my daughter as a pillion. It was High, fast and rough. 1 meter high, over a little hill thing. Road went up and to my surprise down again, and I rode too fast. The suspension did not like that. Afterwards there were springs, but no suspension anymore.... We both survived this well. My daughter liked it. She is crazier than me. So a replacement was needed.

Valve checks are done, they were just checks. Still everything in spec. Further on, regular maintenance, done whith love.

What else can I say. Should I mention the garage catching fire 4 years ago, and the bike was in it? That was on a sunday. Bike caught fire too. Mostly the saddle and side covers. Replaced them with originals. New mirrors, since the ladder fell on it and the bike tipped over. And new bar ends and brake and clutch handles also new. Not original.
I was just in time to put the fire out. Some heat impact on the switches, which I call beauty marks.
I could not ride for a while because I had to wait for the saddle. I wasn't planning on getting sick, so I had to buy another bike. A kawasaki ninja1000 sx. I am convinced God has forgiven me for this stupidity and when I came to my senses again, I replaced it with a second hand NC 750 X, that needed some TLC, which I gave it and this is still my everyday ride. There is no such thing as winter, when you ride a bike like that. This one got other suspension too, and steel brake lines from Hell. I explained to God the purpose of this and he agreed. This bike too is really comfortable.

Both bikes are complementary and I love them. I jump from one on the other, the nc has DCT, which is really nice to have. There is no time needed to get used to shifting again or not anymore depending on the bike. I goes flawlessly.

That is my story briefly in crappy English. If you read this, it is not my responsability. So have a nice one, where ever you may be.

Thanks for this awesome forum, well done. I might say a thing or two here and there.

Hi Everybody!
I was a member of the old forum and found this new one today, so thought I’d say hi again.

I bought my 2014 CB1100 in May of 2015. It had one mile on it. My first (and still only) new vehicle. I have 17k miles on it now, and it’s been 100% trouble free and doesn’t use any oil (only Honda oil and filters). I can’t ever imagine selling it. I also said that about my beloved ‘89 Hawk GT. Still not sure why I sold it, and I miss it dearly, so I need to remember that every time an idea might occur to replace my CB with something else.

I did a 4,140 mile round trip on it from Colorado to Lake Michigan and Eastern Ohio in 2016. Since then it’s done a lot of commuting duties, canyon-carving day trips, and yearly 2-3 day tours of Colorado with my good Brit-bike buddy.

For those who are new to this bike, it’s a fantastic and smooth all-rounder. It’s a little heavy with the tradeoff being high stability for winds and speed. It’s approachable, easy to maneuver, and confusing to all but the most knowledgeable of motorcycle heads. I fell in love when it came out–an air-cooled bike that looks like it’s from the late 70s with analog gauges and metal fenders. It’s just pretty, and we all know this.

Glad to be back and thanks for keeping the forum alive.

Hi All, Glad to have found your community, and i thank you very much for accepting me in!

In 1983 I've owned a 79 CB750F SS black with orange stripes, loved it, now 40 odd years later, i've bought an 81 CB900F SS, same colors, my time machine! i set it up with lower handlebar, new seat, mikuni rs34, pods, sport plates+ bolt-on daytona rear sets, rear shocks, 4into1 delkevic short, all new bearings, cables, masters+cliper seals, pads, coils, wheel paint, cush-drive, etc.. this year will dive in the engine, valve.guides lash, valve.seals, leakdown, comp test, etc..
I'm looking forward to learn tricks & tips on mechanical works and share what i can from my own learning experience!

If there are members from montreal escpecially with the same bikes as me, whether 750,900,1100, or any other, please let me know, it would be great to meet and ride!

Here's pictures of my bike i took last year!
