Hello All,

I used to be a member of the old forum, before it apparently went defunct. I just found your new forum, so I set up an account.

I saw the new Royal Enfield Bullet 650 Twin and the vintage styling made me think of you guys. Looks like it's not yet up on their US website, but apparently it's being delivered in the UK.

Following up on the weird circumstance of having a baffle blow out of my Enfield's left muffler right after I was admonished that the bike was too quiet by a shoe repair man in Irvine, I pulled the other baffle and decided to ride for a while without them. (Great work, by the way. Exquisite replacement of a zipper on my Tourmaster boot. If you need shoe repairs in OC, he's off the 5, south on Culver in the big shopping center). I also wanted to put a few miles on my newly traded touring seat to see how it felt. So far, I had only logged a few runs to Trader Joe's with it.

For reference, these are AEW brand mufflers, a popular aftermarket choice made in India for the Interceptor and Continental 650. Beautifully made and were only about $350 shipped early last year.
I took a casual "no destination in mind" ride yesterday evening after the heat of the day waned a bit to see if I'd want to leave out the new baffles when they arrive. The first thing I noticed, just two miles from home, was a 2013 CB1100 coming the other way out of Santiago Canyon. Seeing another CB is really an occasion, isn't it? No idea who owns it.

I proceeded through Santiago Canyon, past Cook's Corner, the local biker bar. A few blocks past it, a wizened, grey-bearded Harley guy pulled up next to me at a light. He was wearing the most amazing WW1-style goggles. Pointed at my bike and gave a thumbs-up. We rode together for a few blocks, till traffic thickened, and I slid through a gaggle of cars waiting at a light while he held back, limited by the width of his machine.

At cruising speed, the staccato of the mufflers is definitely present, but not droning or bothersome. I enjoyed a ride up the coast through Laguna Beach and Corona del Mar before swinging back up to home, skirting the Newport Back Bay hiking trail. There has been a much-appreciated effort to curb annoyingly loud cars and motorcycles in this area, and I didn't seem to raise any eyebrows. Coming up our street, Mrs. was on the front porch gardening. As I parked, she shrugged and said it wasn't loud enough to be bothersome.

Guess I'll leave them alone for a while.

9 years ago I bought a used 2003 HD Road King from the original owner with only 4005 miles. I drove it for a year and put about 3000 miles on it, and then sold it to a friend. About a month ago my friend asked if I’d be interested in buying it back. Yep! He only drove it 277 miles, and it sat in his barn.
Replaced the tires, took the surface rust off the wheels and spent almost 2hrs polishing the mufflers. Still need to do more cleaning/polishing, and change the oil/filter.

Been waiting to get the "bare minimum" installed before riding OHV trails: handguards, handlebar and grips, adjustable mirror, skid plate, lower pegs and side rack. I also had a welder strengthen the subframe, but that's for whether I put any weight on the tailrack which I haven't installed yet. Right around 39-40 degrees. Lots of rain of late, so lots of puddles and mud. Only about 20 miles of offroad trails and FS roads, but a very fun couple of hours.
I've been coming to this area for about 15 years. I'd say this has happened about half a dozen times. Totally preventable, as I slowed too much, put foot down, slippery! and down! But the side rack and hand guards did what they're designed to do, no damage to bike
Found a new to me road and wanted to take it deep into the woods, but my toes and fingers were getting numb. Only 275 miles on the bike, but I'm hopeful for several camping trips this spring and summer.

While vacationing in sunny FL last week (before returning to 10 deg F MD Saturday) I saw this rig while heading into Daytona Beach. The funny part is, I saw him again 2+ hrs later after leaving town, and he had a cartop carrier somehow attached to the platform, oriented vertically on its side. I wasn't able to get a photo that time since we passed head-on. So now I know that flatbed utility sidecars are a thing.

Tonight, Mrs. G and I went to the traveling “Triumph Unleashed 2026 Tour” that was passing through our local Triumph dealer. Lots of cool people, free snacks and drinks, why not!

We hung out with the head organizer for the Los Angeles Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride, a very nice gentleman himself. I’ve ridden the Orange County DGR for the past few years, but I think he’s convinced me to do the L.A. ride this year. I also met the head of the local 59 Club, and I might try some rides with them. They seem like a cool group of guys.

They also did an “unveiling” of theee new Triumph models. First was the Trident 800. I have to say I was a bit smitten. And if you find a bike that matches yours, you need to get one, right? Red with black and silver trim stripes on the tank… just like a 2013 CB1100…

They also showed off the latest versions of the 400 single, the Thruxton and the Tracker.

A pretty cool scene!

The Verge electric motorcycle has been mentioned in a couple other threads and I hesitate to bring the dead horse back for another beating, but they made a notable announcement a few days ago.

Their battery supplier is saying they now have for sale the first solid state battery ready for automotive applications. And Verge says they now have for purchase and delivery in Q1 2026 these batteries in their motorcycles.

The claimed specs are 400 Wh/kg, 5-10 minute recharge, and 100k cycles. Containing zero lithium. The claims, if true, would represent a game changer. The claims for the motorcycle range are up to 370 miles (600 km). But it is the recharge time and cycle life that would be most impressive, if true.

I'm accustomed to disbelieving most of what I read about the next "miracle battery." However, if these are actually for sale, it should only be a matter of weeks or months before an independent tester gets his hands on one and reports his findings. It will be interesting to see where this one lands.
